Faced with this tough, fabulous decision, who would you choose?

2. Newman
He's aged more gracefully, his salad dressing is superb, and Cool Hand Luke is better than any Redford movie I've seen.

3. 'All the President's Men' is the best Redford movie, IMO.
Tough choice - even for a het guy. :)

14. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
has to beat All the President's Men. And I don't even like westerns as a genre.

BC&TSK and The Sting are two of my all-time faves.

17. The Hustler is my very favorite
but Cool Hand Luke is in the top four, with Hud and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is great too.

I love Paul Newman, but he's almost too pretty.

Whose foot is that in your avatar? Just wondering

8. Newman.
Those eyes.

I saw him in person once many years ago in the late 1970s. He was racing at Road Atlanta. He walked past me about 10 feet away from me. (He is a very small person.)

I thought Redford was better looking. I must say Newman has aged better.

19. Redford has got plenty of personality
though I choose Newman as well--based purely on sex appeal. I don't think Redford is married anymore, but he did date Sonia Braga for a while. You can't call her dull.

22. I'm surprised the vote isn't closer
10 or 15 years ago it would have been much closer. Redford hasn't aged nearly as well as Paul though. Paul Newman is one of nature's great wonders, always beautiful.

24. oh lord have mercy, don't make me choose!
I voted for Redford to make it closer, though Paul has aged better (less time in the sun, I think). Redford's got those great, long legs and a tight little butt, he still looks mighty fine in a pair of jeans. And Sundance is a cool endeavor all the way around (though the stuff in the catalog is ridiculously overpriced). And I thought "Sneakers" was hilarious, if we're talking about some more recent films.

Newman's breathtaking, though. Nooo doubt about it.

26. Yah, but what a guy!
The Way We Were is my all time favorite. That end scene when Streisand asks him to come by sometime for a drink -- and he looks at her and says, "I can't" -- I must have put it on rewind 25 times, and watched it over and over and over. I related to that movie in a myriad of intricate ways.

28. Newman in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Long Hot Summer is
the most exquiste human being ever to exist.

Though I actually prefer him as a bearded artist in What a Way to Go.

Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 06:09 PM by tjdee
Oh my poor sweet Robbie....getting shafted so handily....sure, Paul may have the better range and the tastier food items, but Robbie gave us Sundance!

My word, I canna believe me eyes. Plus, Newman's got finer features, which irritates me ever so slightly. Redford seems fuller in a way.
Newman's all "I'm going to have my way with you" and Redford is more "May I have my way with you?"

Aww.

I love them both, but I did ultimately have to choose Paul. Still, it's bizarre Redford should be doing so badly in this poll.

34. Redford easily
But I agree with Susan Sarandon that Butch and Sundance woulda been a better movie if, in the end, instead of getting their guns out, they'd gotten their dicks out.

Khash.

Sorry, sorry, really. I couldn't help myself - it was such a great quote.

42. Back in the 70s, a lot of people made a dessert known as...
"Better Than Robert Redford Cake."

I never knew anyone who made a "Better Than Paul Newman Cake," though my mother used to say it would be hard to choose between Newman and Redford. She rather liked Warren Beatty also.

No real comparison.

Plus, in his older age, Redford's pockmarks are showing on his face.
