5. I don't know if a particular post count makes one a regular.
I think the thing is to hang around in the lounge and try to converse with people more than having 15000 posts. Just find a thread that interests you and jump in.

6. It's not the quantity of posts...it's the quality.
Anyone can rack up thousands of posts with one- or two-word replies.

It's the quality of the post that matters. Some posters here only have 5,000 posts, and they've been posting regularly since DU's inception. But they post long, well-reasoned responses to threads here.

Others, who haven't been here nearly that long, have five times that amount, and they never post more than a sentence or two at a time.

Post numbers don't matter. Quality of posts does.

9. yes n/t
Why are you looking in here? I said "n/t" --- besides, I'm just tryin to bump my post count with a 3 letter word, so you KNOW you're not gonna find anything particularly interesting in this post :)

10. thank you!
sometimes i feel like number of posts is all people look at. i never look at them! i read and usually don't even know WHO i am reading, let alone how many posts they have or how long they've been here. that's all irrelevant information for me.

7. and it also matters
how many post are squeezed in during the shortest space of time.

Like I have almost 4000, I think-- but they're spread out over 3 and a half years, and I feel like hardly anyone knows me.

But, in order to be a regular, I'd have to become an even worse computer addict than I am, and THAT'S BAD ENOUGH!!

13. Let's see... 15,000 posts. Let's say you spend 1 minute per post
on average. That's 15,000 minutes. That's 250 hours. If you spend less than 1 hr per day you can do it in 1 year or less...

23. But people don't constantly post...
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 10:19 PM by Darranar
I, at least, tend to read through a lot of threads in between posts, until something incites me to comment.

And my best posts always take at least half an hour.

18. Oh, 1000 for sure, because I've been told that when you hit 1000
you automatically go on an FBI red flag list, you are instantly frisked at all airports and/or your passport is dusted for fingerprints, and mysterious men in grey raincoats are suddenly seen hanging around your home and place of employment. And DU sends you a dozen roses. OK, I made up that last one.

38. "Forty-two!" yelled Loonquawl. "Is that all you've got to show...
According to the Hitchhiker's Guide, researchers taking the form of mice, which are actually 3-dimensional profiles of a pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent race of beings, construct Deep Thought, the second greatest computer of all time and space, to calculate the answer to the Ultimate Question. After seven and a half million years of pondering the question, Deep Thought provides the answer: "forty-two".

"Forty-two!" yelled Loonquawl. "Is that all you've got to show for seven and a half million years' work?"
"I checked it very thoroughly," said the computer, "and that quite definitely is the answer. I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you've never actually known what the question is."

36. Now, I voted "1000" to be a regular...
But I really feel that numbers are irrelevant for the most part. I think, to be considered a regular, that people need to know who in heck you ARE. You need to have some presence here to be a regular. And that comes with posting on a fairly regular basis...IMHO...

41. No particular #, more a state of mind
Talk with people, get to know them and let them know you. It's like building a friendship. But you also are able to actively participate even in your first few posts, if you do so joining in, not just making a short irrelevant comment. Of course there will always be "in jokes", but I found enough people here I like to feel comfortable. ANd I don't like cliques anyway.
