Regarding PBS and NPR.....
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 11:34 PM by aquaman
It seems lately that conservatives and liberals have been raising hell about how these institutions are slanted. To me that means that they are doing their job. What do you think?

1. Stop listening to PBS and NPR. They've gone sour.
It saddens me to say it, but one can no longer trust their reporting. They have been taken over by conservatives and corporations. The transformation is well underway.

7. when you're looking for journalists to mouth platitudes that make you feel
good about what you already believe, obviously you're not going to like them. They do a decent job, and they are far from beholden do corporate America. Some people don't want news. They merely want confirmation of what they already believe. That's why Fox is so popular.

3. I don't think it necessarily means anything of the sort...
I mean both sides have the same complaints against the corporate media, and they certainly aren't doing their job. The corporate medias real bias seems to be primarily towards sensationalism and easy stories, I don't think that PBS and NPR are falling prey to the same biases, but they do seem to leave a lot wanting...

4. we say the same thing about the MSM...
Liberals say it is bias to the right and we've all heard about that "liberal media".

Personally all I can stomach these days is AAR

5. I am a publdc television/public radio fan...
I think that both PBS and NPR are great...I regularly listen to the various NPR news programs over the local public radio station in Northeast Tennessee WETS 89.5 FM and believe that NPR decidely presents a more balance news report than do many of those local commercial radio stations.

The commercial radio stations in this area just wish they had a fraction of the audience and demographics of WETS --- check out the online wets.org broadcasts! (requires Real Player)

I wish that I could see more of PBS news programming and documentaries here in Northeast Tennessee but due to the mountainous terrain (and the fact that WETP is approximately fifty miles away from where I reside, I do not actually receive a clear broadcast signal from this public television station --- actually, Northeast Tennessee itself could receive signals from three separate public television stations (WETP tv, the University of North Carolina public television station at Linville, North Carolina, and a relatively nearby public television across the state line in Virginia.

6. they provide good news
and they play it straight. They have no slant as far as I can tell. I like the NPR shows that devote an entire hour to a subject. Dianne Rehm is my favorite, but I also like Fresh Air.

8. NPR has details, no matter what they are covering.
not soundbites

And they will cover things no one else will consider.

I love Dianne and Terry too..and our local talk guy, Glen Mitchell is the greatest.

PBS ..I just have to have it. Period.

I now listen to AAR in the car because I can't receive it in my house yet...and I enjoy it.
