Satellite Radio: XM or Sirius? |
|
So the husband and I are looking at getting satellite radio. The problem is that we can't decide which one to get--I kind of like Sirius better (from what I've read about it) and he kind of wants XM. Neither of us has strong feelings either way.
Do any of you guys have it? Any opinions out there about which one is better?

1. I like those cool Sirius radio units... |
|
but (and no, I don't want to debate the merits of public radio with anyone), but I do like NPR and other public radio news channels. Sirius doesn't get it; XM does.

NPR is one of the reasons I'd rather have Sirius. That and the Left talk channel. :)
The husband wants XM for Coast-to-Coast and Phil Hendrie.

3. Why bother getting sattelite? |
|
You can get Coast to Coast er coadst to coast with a basic free AM radio. Same with Phil Hendrie?
Sounds like a waste of money inless it's used for the things you cant get on regular broadcasting, like Sirius left.

6. We live in Middle of Nowhere, MN |
|
The only radio stations we get suck. Coast-to-Coast is on in the middle of the night, but XM replays it in the morning. We can't get Phil Hendrie.
People who live Somewhere don't get how culturally adrift you are when you live Nowhere.

They get all the same news channels...but Sirius gets better ones. Sirius costs an extra $2.95 a month because its a premium service. No commericials on any music station.

5. XM is partially owned by Clear Channel...if that matters. |
|
Just an additional thing to consider.

7. I'd forgotten about that. |

Clear Channel kills everything it touches. My husband is not convinced that it matters because they're a small investor. But what's to stop them from buying a bigger share and then sucking the good out of it to replace it with their special brand of evil?

Has all the wingnuts any one could wish for! My local satillite dealer is doing XM,
I told him to see if he could get Sirius, then I will buy. He seemed confused!

9. Can you get satellite radio in a stand-alone unit? |
|
Or is this something with a big-ass antenna that needs to be formally installed in your car or house?
I'm curious about this. I, too, would like to enjoy the joyful tenor of Mr. Mike Malloy again.

At my dealer it is a very small box about 4x4x2 inches. Sets in a window, attached to the wall,
and of course a wire leading to the reciever.
