E! Online: "Will Ferrell Back for Some "SNL" Funny" on May 14th
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=797&e=3&u=/eo/20050504/en_tv_eo/16478

Who is Will Ferrell? The answer to Saturday Night Live's host question for May 14.

The former Not Ready for Primetime Player--and dead-on Alex Trebek impersonator--will return to his old comedic stomping ground for the first time since he left three years ago to pursue what has become a blockbuster movie career.

With characters like Craig the Cheerleader, the cowbell-obsessed member of Blue Oyster Cult and schoolteacher Marty Culp, along with impressions of Robert Goulet, President George W. Bush, former Attorney General Janet Reno, Chicago Cubs sportscaster Harry Caray and Inside the Actors Studio host James Lipton, Ferrell shot to stardom during his seven-season stint on SNL.

After playing Dr. Evil's hapless henchman Mustaffa in the first two Austin Power films, Ferrell started focusing more on movies, finally leaving SNL when his contract expired in 2002. Since then, Ferrell, 37, has become Hollywood's go-to funnyguy on the strength of hits like Elf, Anchorman and Old School.

2. "dead-on Alex Trebek impersonator"?!?!?
He's horrible at doing Trebeck. That's part of what makes it so funny.

5. Whoa...we both had the same reaction to that...
His Trebek is in the same mold as Chevy Chases Gerald Ford. So not accurate as an impression that it adds to the funny.

3. Isn't Ferrell a Republican who supported Bush and the war?

I think I remember being disappointed and shocked by that fact! Anyone remember?

6. Absoluteley the opposite.
Quote from Ferrell that I heard on the radio (paraphrasing): "I think George Bush is a nice guy, a funny guy. I just don't think he is nice or funny for America." Also, he did a spoof on GWB during the elections where he just made an ass of the guy.

7. Uh, didn't he do an ad as Bush for some liberal group?
The one where he's impersonating Bush and standing by the fence and the horse or cow or something keeps coming up to him? I forget which group it was for but I'm pretty sure it was a commercial or internet thingy for some liberal group.

4. Celebrity Jeopardy is one of my favorites but I don't know that I'd say
his impersonation of Alex Trebek was dead on. Hysterical yes, but he neither looks nor sounds like Trebek except for a few specific tics.

I hope they don't try and revisit the Cowbell sketch in any way. That's one of those classics that just needs to stand on it's own.

13. The show will be a crashing disappointment
without a Celebrity Jeopardy sketch, as mentioned by several others. Some more Trebek-Connery gems:

Sean Connery: It looks like this is my lucky day! I'll take "The Rapists" for $200.

Alex Trebek: That's "Therapists." That's "Therapists," not "The Rapists." Let's skip "Therapists" and try "Household Objects", for $400. And the answer is, "You usually drink water out of one of these." < Sean Connery buzzes in > Sean Connery.

_______

Alex Trebek: Yeah, it was a trick question, Mr. Connery. Why don't you pick a category?

Sean Connery: I've got to ask you about the Penis Mightier.

Alex Trebek: What? No. No, no, that is The Pen is Mightier.

Sean Connery: Gussy it up however you want, Trebek. What matters is does it work? Will it really mighty my penis, man?

Alex Trebek: It's not a product, Mr. Connery.

Sean Connery: Because I've ordered devices like that before - wasted a pretty penny, I don't mind telling you. And if The Penis Mightier works, I'll order a dozen.

Alex Trebek: It's not a Penis Mightier, Mr. Connery. There's no such thing!

Nicholas Cage: Wait, wait, wait.. are you selling Penis Mightiers?

Alex Trebek: No! No, I'm not.

Sean Connery: Well, you're sitting on a gold mine, Trebek!

chew scenery worse than Mike Myers?
