Poll question: Present participles in movie titles: boon or bane?
Edited on Wed May-04-05 02:08 PM by Richardo
It seems to me that there's been a recent spate of movie titles with "-ing" verbs in them.

For some reason this bugs me.

Some are old (Looking for Mr Goodbar; Driving Miss Daisy; Swimming to Cambodia) but I think it's getting to the point where it's being overused. What say you? What other titles are out there?

Finding Fisher
Finding Nemo
Chasing Amy
Saving Private Ryan
Being There...

"In a world....where many people have REAL problems...Richardo takes the cake for trivial complaining. See Beau Bridges as Richardo in: "Bitching Mr. Richardo" ....going straight to video at a store near you.")

"Beau Bridges is 'Richardo'!"
(except with thinner hair and not so bushy eyebrows)

11. You're better looking than Beau, Richardo.
My movie, if I made one, would be called Pining for Jude Law.

3. What makes them present?
If I may present to you the unassailable info that it takes two verbs to have a present progressive.

Therefore, English runs amiss or perhaps "amister" when it presupposes that the participle is present.

Was looking good until that last sentence.

4. Hi, Richardo,
Doesn't look overused to MOI! It's true that there are a lot of movies with participles in the title; so what? Sorry if I sound rude, darling, I don't mean to...

Let's see if we can find something to distract you from this problem! Of course, my brains fail me when I most need them to perform...lololol

I hope you can find something more productive to worry about!

6. No doubt there are higher ranking...
items on my "Problems Facing the World" list but yes, this has driven me crazy for years now. Can't really explain why it grates, but its proliferation of late has become quite annoying.

8. Regarding Henry
Waking Ned Divine
Saving Silverman

I'm sure there are tons more out there. It's something I have noticed and it bugs the hell out of me.
