The appearance of a bear carcass on the construction site of Joel Hidahl Elementary School on Redwood Avenue left construction officials scratching their heads Thursday.
Apparently the bear had been killed in the mountains and buried with pipework on the site a month ago by someone working on the project. The body was unearthed when additional excavation was taking place.
An anonymous man who identified himself as a construction employee called the Courier, claiming that the bear had been buried by an underground foreman in a storm drainage pipeline ditch approximately one month ago. The foreman reportedly walked off the job to avoid being fired for an unrelated issue, the employee told the Courier. When the pipeline had to be dug up, the body of the black bear was found Tuesday of last week.
The project superintendent for KM Jackson Construction of Stockton, was dumbfounded when he learned about the bear Thursday afternoon.
