Has anyone seen Team America?
I watched it last night. There were some funny parts, but overall, I was disappointed. I expected a lot more from Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

1. Crap. I was gonna rent it. Is it even worth the few bucks?

2. I don't know. I guess so just to say you've seen it.
Like I said there are some funny parts, but it wasn't what I expected at all. I was mainly bored with it. But they are good at making fun of Hollywood celebrities.

3. Funny, but it proved Parker & Stone to be partisan cowards...

If you like x-rated "South Park"-style humor spliced with racial and jingoistic slurs and caricatures, then you'll like this movie.

But the plot and the logic behind the events in the move are absolutely stupefying. They push the point that "Team America" does a horrendous job "policing the world", but they make absolutely no mention of Bush or any Republicans being responsible for anything. They then depict Michael Moore as a violent terrorist (he blows up the Team America fortress) and then depict a slew of "liberal" celebrities collaborating directly with North Korea's Kim Jong-Il. They avoid blaming the current administration for anything by claiming "Team America" is funded by "The Big Corporations", which makes absolutely no sense on any level.

The puppet sex scene, turned up to 11 on the unrated DVD, is worth the price of the rental.

Anyway, if these two are supposed to be cultural icons of the "South Park conservatives", then we have very little to worry about.

4. I laughed my ass off at that. That part was hilarious.

But I thought it made fun of everyone. Some people more so obviously. The celebrity part was funny to me. It wouldn't be funny if I were one of the celebrities, but sometimes I feel they can hurt our cause by being so vocal. I love that they speak their mind, but others can take it as looking down on them.

They didn't say Bush or Rumsfeld, but I took it as they kind of suck at doing their job.

I was bored with it, but it had some funnies.

8. I agree to a certain extent...

...but a movie entitled "Team America" that doesn't mention Chimpy at least once is intellectually dishonest and cowardly.

Some of the celebrity bits, especially "Matt Damon", were funny. But I think the Michael Moore scene involving his character blowing up the Team America's military base crossed the line from humor to defamation. I'm sure with all of the death threats and such now coming from Conservative AM hate radio Moore has more important matters to contend with.

9. Yeah really.
I can't imagine how the celebrities who are depicted feel about their gruesome demises in the movie, but I am sure they, like Michael Moore, have bigger fish to fry.

5. I wanted to rent it.
Blockbuster, the only video store in my area, was all out this weekend. They never seem to have any of the recent releases in stock ever since they started their "no late fee" policy. I wish they'd go back to late fees again so that people would actually return the movies in a timely manner.

6. There was only one part I even really found funny...
That was the theme song, "America, Fuck Yeah!"

I was really disappointed, because I really enjoy South Park.

7. I found the puppet sex funny. Maybe because I am silly.
But it had me rolling.

11. My friend and I felt like we had been slimed by a neocon infomercial...
we couldn't stand to watch Southpark for weeks and weeks after.

I've heard that Parker and Stone are personal friends of KKKarl, and after seeing that bit of crass propaganda, I truly believe it.
