What The Hell Happened To Charlie Daniels? |
|
He used to be a good long-haired liberal Southern boy.
I still love "Uneasy Rider" and all that jazz. But now he's a Zell Miller clone. I just don't understand that kind of shit. "Uneasy Rider" was a great tune, or story really. I still love it when it comes on the radio. Anti-Nixon, Anti-War. Anti-John Birch. I love it.
But now he's CRAZY. What's up with that?

... be it Confederate or US, is a lot easier than thinking about the way things are and coming up with new material... that and/or he just got old and scared.

He's got a lot of talent. But when he made Uneasy Rider '88 it was clear that he was anti-gay. Downhill from there. It's a shame. He could have been a great populist voice, but he let his bigoted views get the best of him. :(

3. Charlie hasn't had a hit record in over 25 years. |
|
He's in his sixties and has no money. He's too old to sell his body to stay off the streets, so he's trying to sell his NAME (soul) to the highest bidder, in a last-ditch attempt to avoid living in a cardboard box behind the Piggly Wiggly.
Welcome to George Bush's Amerika.

5. Saw him in a FREE concert a couple of years ago |
|
Free should have been the clue. It was the worst concert I have ever been to. They sounded horrible. I think Charlie Daniels is washed up. It was some country that I could listen to with out puking.

There was (and still is) lots more to be made in the field of (what passes for) Country music by being a flag-sucking half-wit* than by being an original thinker. Nashville does NOT want brilliance. It wants a carbon copy of whatever sold a million units last month.
Poor old Charlie. He's a damn good fiddler and he sho nuff toed that Patriotic Line for a few decades, but then he made the mistake of getting old. ("Country" radio won't touch your ass after you hit 50 or so.) Having none of the integrity of a Johnny Cash, all that's left for Charlie is to rail against the Libruls in Hollywood, hoping to make enough noise to keep his name alive.

7. Did anyone think that golden fiddle would come without some sort |
|
of strings attached? He used to be REALLY good... but that was a long long time ago... D ps: He was always just a good ol' boy anyway; what gets me is when liberal voices like Dennis Miller suddenly metamorphize into rabid Bush-supporters overnight... I suspect an involvement of interstellar pods, myself...
