3. sheriff without a gun-
When a man carries a gun all the time, the respect he thinks he's getting might really be fear. So I don't carry a gun because I don't want the people of Mayberry to fear a gun. I'd rather they respect me.

7. And Griffith's GREATEST performance in "A Face in the Crowd"
as "Lonesome Rhodes", folksy country entertainer who turns fascist right-wing pundit when he learns the power of TV...

9. Absolutely, and so eerily prescient today. It should be required viewing
for Democrats.

11. I heartily endorse that recommendation

It is so odd for those of us who grew up watching Sheriff Andy Taylor to see Andy Griffith play a sociopathic character.

A Face in the Crowd is one of those movies, like Network, which seemed over the top when it first came out, but in this age of right wing broadcast demagoguery, it seems prophetic.

Local radio reporter (Patricia Neal) discovers Rhodes (Andy Griffith) when she goes to interview prisoners at the county jail.

14. "A Face in the Crowd" also had Lee Remick in the cast.

She was so incredibly beautiful. I had a crush on her from the first time I saw her in a film until the day she died. I guess I still do.
((Sigh.))
John
It is now 16 days, 22 hours and 29 minutes to FUNDAY. And happy birthday, Andy.

15. I believe that A Face in the Crowd was her first film
and she went on to give great performances in films such as Days of Wine and Roses and Anatomy of a Murder.

She's one of those actresses who died way too young. :-(
