Poll question: All DUers check in ---- how old are you?
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 02:56 PM by expatriot
The poll on the most enjoyable period of your life made me think about what exactly is the age demographic bell curve on DU. It defintely looks like upper 20's and 30's got the most responses in that poll. How old are you, DU?

And you are still one extremely good-looking gentleman! I actually prefer how you look now to how you looked when you were young...Something very sexy about a well-muscled, confidently masculine man that I find very appealing...And you've got it...in spades. I know, this is the wrong thread for this; too bad!

37 and birthday in August here, too! 15th for me. 1967 - Summer of Love.

I was a bit bummed out last year 'cause I can't with a good conscience say "mid-30s" anymore. This year, who cares! I'm used to late-30s now.

53. 30 used to scare the hell out of me too
when I was in my early 20's. Maybe when I start approaching 40 I'll have a different view about it. At least, I hope I will.

Isn't 40 the new 30? :7

116. 30 feels so rushed.
And I feel like I have no time to myself. Actually, posting on here is about the only time that I have to myself. Everything else is for my child. When I am forty she will be a teenager and I might have an actual spare moment to myself. At least I will be able to go to the bathroom alone by then!

129. That's what I'm hoping for.
I have a soon-to-be five year old (on the 17th). My life revolves around her. Plus, I am one of those hands-on parents so I show up to every school board meeting (starting doing this last year because I knew she would be attending in this district), volunteer for everything in her school and out in the community along w/ the political and issue groups that I belong to.
Of course, we also have our sports, church and such. So it seems like life never slows down even for five seconds.
Forty has to be better.

Right now everything seems so rushed. I heard that at 40 you feel like you have the right to slow down just a little bit.
Actually, I have heard that 50 is fabulous. I have a friend who turned 50 a couple of years ago and she is having the time of her life.

139. I think
that at 40 you know yourself well, you are often settled with family and/or career and you have time to really enjoy things. It also seems to be a "sensual" time for many women! I like myself better than ever and appreciate what I am and what I have accomplished. I would recommend the 40s unequivocally. :)

288. I loved turning thirty. I felt simultaneously empowered and liberated
by it. Liberated, I suppose, because I was able to stop the dreaded anticipation of it. Empowered because I finally felt as though the world would take me seriously.

I'm almost 39 now, and I still have young children (three and five), AND I have one who will be 18 in less than two weeks.

I admit to 36 but I'm really 39. But I look younger - I still need my driver's licence, passport, and a note from my mom just to buy a pack of fags.

So when I actually do start to show my age it's gonna be a disaster. Picture of Dorian Gray time.

You on the other hand will age beautifully. Good bone structure, colouring, skin. At 70 you'll look as good as you do now. And those eyebrows! I swear to god you have the all time sexiest eyebrows.....

Oops sorry, I'll keep your eyebrows to myself. So to speak.

277. It's the people that have seen the much better days
and always had hope for the future that are the most pissed off. It makes total sense to me that older people would be more concerned. We are concerned for ourselves as social security is attacked, and our children and grandchildren, who we always thought would have as good a life or better than ours. Younger people simply don't have the perspective that the 50+ generations have.

Sounds like the Guy who wrote that new movie, "Lords of Dog Town" must be in his 50's, because he talked about his first Skate Boards having Clay wheels.

132. As of this posting it appears this bell curve has a different demographic.
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 11:39 AM by Seabiscuit
233 posters identified themselves in the poll as 40+

156 posters identified themselves in the poll as under 40.

Therefore the 40+ posters outnumber the under 40 posters 3 to 2.

Color me surprised.

I thought the majority of DUers would be in their 30's with the standard deviation's being in the 20's and late 40's. I had no idea the predominence of boomers here on DU

136. The division of 50-59 into 2 groups might have shown interesting results.
It could be bottom heavy or top heavy.

OTOH, the 0-18 group only comprises 4%, which as a sample isn't particularly significant statistically.

There are two concerts going on. Interpol/Queens of the Stone Age and Kraftwerk.

I'm definitely going to the first one. This will be my first time to Chicago and I am very excited.

I'm also going to visit museums, art galleries and other exhibits.

(and a White Sox game if I can fit it in)

There are more than twice the number of votes when I first made note of it but the results haven't really changed:

Those 40+ outnumber those under 40 about 3 to 2.

27% are still 50+.

6% are still 60+

4% are still 0-18.

i know i for one envy you teenagers on DU... when I was 15 I had my head so far up my *** that although I was current on current events my political identity was so nebulous I didn't know up from down.

Do you have any friends (in the real world, not online friends) that are political? Because then I would envy you even more. As politically undeveloped as I was at the age of 16, I was the most political kid in high school.

One of 41 old farts checking in.

Just imagine - we were studying physics before most people here were a gleam in their fathers' eyes! We lived through 1,000 glorious days of JFK's administration! We had friends who died in Vietnam. We protested in the streets and in the media. We created a "counterculture" which lives on today.
