Lets have a serious discussion: Liberals have no sense of humour
I'm serious here. Dude in this months Vanity Fair is claiming that conservatives are funnier than liberals, because we have no sense of humour. As an example of a funny (as in humourous, not retarded) conservative icon, he mentions nothing, not one funny thing (Gannon was good for a few rippers, no?). For some reason , he left Dennis Miller out too.

Blames the New York Times and Slate for being stodgy liberal icons.
He does mention Jon Stewart in passing, and Al Franken, wonkette

I'm thinking: this writer needs to take a few laps in the DU lounge pool. He might come out loopy, but laughing.

2. The people who think the New York Times is some kind of
liberal rag are the same people, by and large, who refer to it as the "Jew York News", so a person is known by the company he keeps.

4. I've never met a funny Conservative
Has anyone? Sounds like projection to me.

There's a reason that entertainers are Democrats.

18. My former in-laws
The dad, in fact, was a member of the John Birch society. Everytime I said something funny or told a joke or shot off some quip (and I am, at least in person, a funny motherfucker), they would look at me like I was from Mars. Their daughter (the mother of my child) would often laugh, and was also often courteous enough to say, "Mom, that was a joke." What kind of people have no sense of irony, none at all?

The only times they laughed were when someone, usually the father, would actually say,"Okay, I'm going to tell a joke. A nigger, a beaner, and a white man are on an airplane..."

The only other time I saw them laugh was when someone was injured. They loved "America's Funniest Home Videos," but only laughed out loud during the scenes with injuries (as opposed to the scenes that were simply humiliating).

One time, out of the blue, during a bout of spontaneous bipolar anger, my ex hit me in the forehead with a drinking glass; it shattered and cut my forehead open. They found that to be fucking hilarious.

These folks have walls covered in Jesus and crosses and eagles and Dubya, attend church every Sunday, sing in the choir, protest abortion clinics, believe the Earth is only 7,000 years old -- you name a "conservative" talking point, and they've been brainwashed by it.

5. Conservatives have a sense of humor???
Have you ever read Mallard Fillmore? The Leftersons? Has Dennis Miller said one thing remotely funny since he left Saturday Night Live?

I have yet to see anything from the neocons that is remotely funny. Not surprising though, it's hard to laugh when you're full of hate.

10. I've only met 'mean' funny conservatives, not truly witty conservatives
most of the liberals I know are truly witty. Also, think of all those "Hollywood" writers-most of the REALLY funny ones, like Larry david, are raging liberals.

11. Point for you
Conservatives are funny when they tease, like Limbaugh.

Americans love "put-down" funny, because we are too stupid to get wit. I dont get it.

13. Jay Leno seems to be pretty conservative
but is he funny? Alot of times not.
Liberals do have the problem with "humor" which helps to belittle and stereotype people. Isn't the following, from Krugman, hilarious?

"If the plan really would do that, it would be worth discussing. It's possible - not certain, but possible - that 40 or 50 years from now Social Security won't have enough money coming in to pay full benefits. (If the economy grows as fast over the next 50 years as it did over the past half-century, Social Security will do just fine.) So there's a case for making small sacrifices now to avoid bigger sacrifices later.

But Mr. Bush isn't calling for small sacrifices now. Instead, he's calling for zero sacrifice now, but big benefit cuts decades from now - which is exactly what he says will happen if we do nothing. Let me repeat that: to avert the danger of future cuts in benefits, Mr. Bush wants us to commit now to, um, future cuts in benefits."

15. Conservatives are funnier only if you like good ole boy humor.
You know, like making fun of Chelsea Clinton when she was 13, racist/sexist/homophobic jokes, etc. Yeah, really hilarious stuff.

26. Yes, because wit requires intelligence and that seems to be
in pretty short supply amongst conservatives. They don't want to have to think. As long they're not the butt of the joke, it's funny.

24. Propaganda = "They have all negative personal characteristics."
"We have all positive personal characteristics." They are always negative, and losing." We are always positive, and winning." Now do you understand how it works?
