Why The Hell Do Games With Direct X Crash Both Of My Computers?

I think direct X is the common factor (although I'm not certain).

When I run games like Age Of Mythology or Age of Empires (or others using Direct X) I am usually fine for a while but at some point they crash both of my computers. One I would understand. Different machines, with different processors.

Usually If I do a system restore, It will be fine for a while. If I do not they crash over and over.

Any ideas? This has plauged me for a couple of years...

What OS (98/ME/2000/XP...)

What version of DirectX

What video card(s)/chipset

3. Here's What I Know.

Running XP on both.

Currently using versiong 4.08 (that came with Age Of Mythology)

Video Card On the main one is An NVidea G Force 4 440 go. I believe the other is as well. I can check if you need more info...

4. Would that be DirectX 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 ....

You should be able to find out from
1. Click the start menu
2. Click run
3. Type dxdiag, and click Ok

This will also tell you if video is compatible, although I am pretty sure it should be.

If you don't have DirectX 9.0C then get that from microsoft.

You may need to upgrade your drivers.

More stable.

But MS, as usual, uses its reach to put in new "technologies" that are unstable.

Don't expect me to use ATi video cards for a long while either...

I was not going out of my way to find anything. I didn't get much chance to surf past the main page yesterday and was curious about what I missed.

I actually don't watch reality TV. I rarely watch anything besides a few kids shows on Noggin with my 3 year-old.

I just was reading the thread, coincidentally had happened to have read the other one Progmom was referencing and thought that she had an interesting point about which diversion was worse, American Idol or violent video games.

Didn't realize I was breaking any rules by posting my opinion. :-(
