Poll question: Why are we so hard on fellow DEMOCRAT TOM CRUISE?
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 02:25 PM by dhinojosa
http://newsmeat.com/celebrity_political_donations/Tom_Cruise.php

The DU hyenas are out eating their own. We look for people to support our cause and when they do something weird or strange we eat them alive!

With no remorse! I have seen us attempt to destroy people on our side, like Rosie O'Donnell, Jane Fonda, Michael Moore, and even lately, Mark Felt (who is a republican with a soft spot for his country).

It's as if we are doing the Republicans a favor. So the poll is:
Why are we so hard on fellow DEMOCRAT Tom Cruise?

On edit: Capped Tom Cruise

She also praised Bushtard at least until last year when she finally noticed he was anti-gay (I guess the whole mass-murder of Iraq slipped by her).

To hell with Rosie and her stupid kooshballs.

13. The only thing I have against Tom Cruise is that I don't think he can act.

I don't hate him or even dislike him. I'm definitely going to see War of the Worlds and I would have preferred a different actor in the lead. But, he doesn't bother me enough to avoid him if he is in a movie I really want to see.

In other words, I think he is terribly over-rated as an actor and sometimes it does get bothersome than some really great actors can't get work and someone like Tom Cruise makes millions and millions. The bottom line is the bottom line, though. If Tom Cruise brings in the big bucks at the box office, he deserves a big cut of that money.

The Scientology thing is not on my radar at the present time. I've heard some nasty things about it. I've heard some nasty things about a a few religions. If they are hurting people..bad, very bad!

Thomas Mapother IV didn't go to the Republican Convention and go ape shit and lie, maybe soon he will ;).

Thomas Mapother IV didn't kiss Bush.

Thomas Mapother IV wasn't racist.

Tommy just made movies, freakout on Oprah, is a cult member, and goes out with young girls. He's got a long way to go to get Zell, Joe, and Strom status.

24. Other
I really have nothing completely against Tom cruise... But just becuase he's a "fellow Democrat" doesn't excuse him from criticism and dislike. I mean we got assholes... weirods, dipsits, dumbfucks, and In Name Onlyies on both sides of the political spectum. He may be a Democrat... and we all may agree with which side he votes for. . . doesn't mean we have to like, respect, appreciate and/or enjoy him in any way.

Put it this way... Robert Duvall is a Republican (At lesat that's what I've read in a few threads) But I enjoy his acting and he damn well entertains me...

Jeaneae Garnforlo (I know I just fucked her name up royally. . . don't kick my ass) is a Democrat (Or is she independent?) but I don't find her funny or entertaining.

Tom Cruise may be a Democrat... but that doesn't mean other democrats have to like him.

28. Because he's been a total dick about handling the gay talk
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 04:36 PM by terrya
Apparently, in his constant threats of legal action, the lawsuits...saying how "disgusting" it was to have his children hearing the rumors about his being gay on a Barbara Walters interview a few years back...he's constantly, continually being homophobic. According to Tommy baby, being thought of as gay is the worst...the WOST...thing in the world. If he was secure about his own sexual orientation, I daresay none of the talk would bother him.

Fuck him, fuck his homophobia, fuck his movies and his acting career. It doesn't mean a goddamned thing to me that he's a Democrat.

29. The idea that we're supposed to like Tom Cruise because..
He gave money to Democrats is ridiculous; as others have said, does that mean Toby Keith or Zell Miller is jake w/ you?

He's a member of a dangerous cult that's done much, much more bad than anyone can possibly imagine, and yeah, since he actively embraces the "philosophies" of that cult, he's tainted to me.

And the Gay thing:

I've worked in an industry most of my life that have alot of gays and lesbians working in it; a number have become close friends through the years. To a person they've aid that Cruise being gay is the worst kept secret in Hollywood; the fact that he embraces a cult that says that you can be cured of being gay and hides behind them and lawyers when the rumors start up again is reason enough for me to dislike him right there.

I think alot of fans of Cruise (or any other closeted actor)have alot emotion validation to the idea that Cruise is "straight"; the fantasy of them on the screen (and their minds and loins)is destroyed is he were to announce he was gay. And they'll go to ridiculous lengths to prove to anyone that it isn't the case.

One of my best friends is a gay man who I've known for years; we originally became friends because we were both sports fans and would talk non-stop about that. When he told me he was gay, alot of the talks shifted to the many, many closeted athletes and actors (he worked behind the scenes in the film industry)that were out there that he personally knew were gay. In his words, "the bigoted sports and film fans of america would have a heart attack if they truly knew how many of their heroes were gay; they couldn't take it.". Hell, I had a very nice lady who I worked w/ a few years ago try to tell me w/ a straight face that Rock Hudson wasn't really gay, that it was just a smear job by communists to destroy Hollywood. That's the mentality I'm talking about.

That's why whenever I hear these same names banded around I have to laugh; if those bigots only knew, I guess..

35. Because he's a Scientologist.
He is a pathetic dupe in a money-making operation that has most of the hallmarks of a dangerous cult. But he isn't being exploited; he's being featherbedded by the cult, given perks and privileges, given the use of facilites and ships, because he is amazing high-profile advertising for the pure evil of Scientology, while its lower ranks are pumped for all they are worth. Quite literally. He deserves nothing but contempt for this blindness to his role in the organisation.

42. Why would you question Fonda these days?
Have you read her autobiography and how she savages *, Rumsfeld and the neo-cons for their lack of honesty, integrity and accountability? How she criticizes Abu Ghraib, the second Gulf War and the like? She's still a truly passionate liberal.

My main point of contention with Jane Fonda is her trip to Hanoi -a trip she never should have taken in the first place while US soldiers were serving in Vietnam. But she hasn't gone over to the dark side now

50. Just because someone is of a particular political affiliation does not
necessarily mean he or she should get an automatic free pass. There are some actors/actresses who are Democrats but whose actions are questionable. There are some actors/actresses who are Republican who are good people despite their political beliefs and should be recognized for their talent. In addition this is a forum with a diverse range of people and people may hold varying opinions about the talent or lifestyle of a particular actor or actress but who are still nevertheless passionate liberals or progressives

For example I don’t like much of Barbara Streisand’s music or most of her movies but I profoundly value and respect her passionate liberalism and her courage and commitment in exercising her activism. I consider her to be an asset to the Democratic Party and I think that she has contributed immensely to the liberal cause. But you won’t find me heaping accolades on her music or her acting because she’s a liberal. Similarly I find Kelsey Grammar funny in “Frasier” even though I find his political views and support of * abhorrent. But while you’ll find me lauding his acting, you won’t find me subscribing or complimenting him on his political views. It’s not a question of eating your own; it’s a case of likes and dislikes.

And BTW I do like Tom Cruise (although I think his criticism of Brooke Shields was in poor taste, unnecessary and quite frankly bizarre)
