I saw the Judas Priest concert last night, it kicked so much ass
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 04:44 PM by eyepaddle
they had to bus in additional ass!

There's just something about watching a band that has 35 years of experience digging in!

On a side note, metalheads are an odd mix, in terms of a high school clique it'd be about one-half victims, one half victimizers. I never would've admitted it then, but I guess now in all honesty I suppose I was a victim back in the day.

A final observation, can anybody say who might be lonelier than the black guy at a heavy metal concert? (actually I saw three African Americans at the show last night, and NOBODY was giving them a hard time, but Dayyy--uummmm, talk about being outnumbered)

Again, in fairness everybody I saw looked to be having a good time.

4. He get's a little gravelly on the high notes,
but he can still hit the high notes! And in other ways, such as control and pitch I think he's better than ever.

I've only seen them in Minnesota, but I've seen them six times! :)

And WOW, the new material REALLY comes alive onstage, aand the version of "Victim of Changes" literally jaw dropping, Tipton and Downing have always been superb, but KK's solo was awe inspiring. I'd call it the highpoint of the show. :hi:

They're adding more shows to the US tour, and unless you live in Ohio or MN, they haven't come your way yet--so go get a ticket. Then I'll be the jealous one, not getting to see them again and all.

This may be hard to believe, but if anything KK is MORE awesome, they really let him stretch out on "Victim" and I was speechless.

And for the record, Downing and Tipton are the guys who inspired me to take up guitar 20 years ago!

2. OMG - is that Rob Halford?
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 04:53 PM by SnowGoose
it looks like he's puttin' on a little poundage!

On edit - I think I'm going to have to listen to 'sad wings of destiny' when I get home...

ok, not really, I'm going to crank up 'defenders' but I wanted to be cool and pretend like I like the 'old stuff' better. Hell, it's *all* old stuff now!

I really like Point of Entry and NOBODY likes Point of Entry.

Hard to go wrong with Defenders of the Faith though.

3. Hell yeah!
I'm seeing them at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow,VA on the 19th. I saw them a couple years back with Ripper Owens, but there's no way that could compare to hearing Halford back on vocals.

8. It'll be WELL worth your while,
it's hard to put your finger on it, but there are some bands that just have that "speciallness" about them. Priest is one of those.

18. ~Rocka Rolla~`
....my all time favorite album...and song...

Man eatin' momma, steam driven hammer
Sorts the men out from the boys
Takes no messin', all in wrestlin'
Is one of her pride and joys

She a classy, flashy lassy
Imitation sapphire shine
Two faced liar, full of fire
But I know the flame is mine

Rocka rolla woman for a rocka rolla man
You can take her if you want her
If you think you can
Rocka rolla woman for a rocka rolla man
You can take her if you want her you can

She's a grip and choke ya
Heavy smoker
Wrong side of the law

Midnight shady
Good time lady
Heavy, ready show you what for

Barroom fighter
Ten pint a nighter
Definite ninety-nine

Diamond cluster
Knuckle duster
Feline on the borderline

Rocka rolla woman for a rocka rolla man
You can take her if you want her
If you think you can
Rocka rolla woman for a rocka rolla man
You can take her if you want her you can

I have that LP, with that cover.

How 'bout Caviar and Meths, or Run of the MIll. Run of the Mill, Rob says he can't hit those notes anymore, he's proud it made it on record.

For even knowing Rocka Rolla exists:

:yourock: :hi:

On edit, have you got the "Electric Eye" DVD? They've got footage from old BBC shows, and one of the performances is Rocka Rolla

And that doesnt even count watching them steal the stage at Ozzfest last year! :headbang:

Did you see Queensryche? How were they? And was it true that they're not playing any songs from Operation:Mindcrime?

15. In fact I did see Queensryche,
they played one tune from "Mindcrime" I forget the name, I think it was "The Needle Lies" or something like that.

Queensryche is a VERY solid band, but threough no fault of their own they got blown off the stage by Priest. Priest has a long history of getting big name opening bands (or well, kind of has-been opening band in this case) and they treat them well, let 'em use the lights, let 'em play a few encores, but then after all that kind treatment coming out and OWNING the show.

However a troubling note was the queensryche tune "I'm an American;" I couldn't make out all the words but I'm kind of afraid it might have been a heavy metal Lee Greenwood tune.

Somebody, tell me I misheard the point of that tune--somebody, please....

21. Nice.
I saw Queensryche earlier this year at Universal Ampitheater. One of the many reasons I'm looking forward to this show more than some other ones I'm going to!

13. Judas Priest was my introduction to "real" heavy metal.
I bought a copy of "Stained Class" when it was first released and was blown away. Up until then, I was listening to Styx and Boston and thinking that it was metal. JD redefined things for me. They just kicked my ass.

Freakin' love those guys.

16. Hey Glorious Witch!
:hi:

I'm all about ear plugs at shows--whether they're in bars or in the Excel center.

What did the friend think of the show? There were a few youngsters there, and I wonder how they see a band like that?

Metal Gods? Jurassic Priest--the Dinosaurs? what?
