Spelling bee - Wouldn't it be funny if....

Someday, one of the contestants in the course of asking the questions they can ask about the word, they ask, "Can you spell that for me?"

Ok, just one of my random thoughts, nothing to see here!

1. Actually, one kid did that today.

I heard it on NPR. "Would you spell that for me?" "I certainly wish that I could."

2. Kids do try that allllll the time.

I've run district level spelling bees. Kids don't do it at that level (they are OUT FOR BLOOOOOD!!!!) but at the classroom level, they do try it.

BTW, the worst part about spelling bees isn't the kids. It's the PARENTS.

5. The last one I did

I thought this one mom was going to reach out and punch me. Her son lost and she was swearing that I didn't pronounce the word correctly.

Well, we tape every spelling bee and we played it back for her. The three judges said I did indeed pronounce it correctly (I am a STICKLER for that and for enunciation), so she had to put her claws back up.

Sheesh.

best bee ever was the chick from a few years ago...euonym was her word I think. she was awesome.

there was a documentary about the bee a couple of years ago, it was great too.

6. I saw that. You wouldn't think a documentary about a SPELLING BEE

would be any good, but damn it was funny, interesting, kept you on the edge of your seat. They did a bang-up job on that.

What WAS that called? Loved it! The DVD has an update on the kids in the documentary.
