Saw the most fucked thing today, right out of Clockwork Orange...
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 03:35 AM by henslee
In Queens,NY, I saw a van full cops today (the kind that drives around & picks up/drops off citation givers) Anyway, there were three guys in it, taunting, and agitating a mentally compromised man with a speech defect collecting cans. First they hit their squelch siren when he crossed the street which made him jumpy. Then they pretended to follow him. Then one guy made fun of him, mimicking his voice. And the madder the poor guy got, the more these thug cops bothered him. I would have said something but was too chickenshit to get involved and did not have my i.d. on me, in case I got carded. It was sick.

2. Me too. Cops are cool here. My mom and me both saw this.
My mom who is very emotional felt awful. I have the number of the truck and could file a little complaint but that is a waste of time for sure.

4. The other side of CO
Before I left the district for Arlington (and the coast for the hinterlands) I was walking from my house on 4th St. NE behind Union Station to the little store on 3rd.

There was a gang of very young teenagers walking down the middle of the street, with a radio. A few were rapping along with the lyrics.

As the cop car split the small crowd, a few of them started drumming on the police car to the music, pretty hard.

The police continued to cruise on by very slowly and did nothing.

That freaked me out.

9. Freaked my out bad (CO=Clockwork Orange)
It might be possible to see two sides to how the cops handled it. My own view (perhaps colored by the particular neighborhood I was living in ) was negative.

I have lived in two of the Murder Capitals of the United States. It used to be if you didn't walk home late at night drunk, sat on your stoop and talked to neighbors, gave out candy at halloween and helped the very old lady a couple of doors down with her garbage, that "high crime" urban neighborhoods were livable.

Sometime in late 80s or early 90s something snapped. People (mostly druggy kids) just went bezerk, and would not as soon shoot you first and look through your pockets later. It just got too scary.

6. Policework seems to be attractive to bullies...
NOT saying all cops are bullies, but rather, the bully personality seems to be naturally drawn to any job that gives them power over others. This type of thing NEVER surprises me.

7. Report those shits
Seriously. Even if it is only the location and time and the general description of the van. Let them do the legwork from there - perhaps they will look into it.

The real reason i did not say anything is i think i have a warrant for a failure to appear for "riding my bicycle on the sidewalk" in the city from about three years ago.
