Time To Celebrate - Good News On The Job Front!! |
|
Wow! I'm bouncing off the chairs. I don't know if it's in the stars, but I just got the greatest news.
Many of you know that I was out of work for 3.5 years. I finally got a job last Sept that paid me about 25% of my old job. Well, that job ended 5/31. My boss told me I was being downsized - last in, first out - but paid me for all of May. I got serious about the new job hunt and went to work with the resumes etc.
Out of the blue, I had a couple of recruiters call me around the 15th. One had a non-profit job, the other a private-sector job with an American company of international stature. I've spent the better part of the last two weeks interviewing for these two positions, even flew out of state to take a face-to-face. Both companies were very interested in me, so I let them know that the other one was interested to create a little healthy competition.
Well, this week has been non-stop phone calls and interviews. I just finished a third in-person interview with the private-sector company, got home and had a messgae from the non-profit guy that he had a solid OFFER for me - with a 6-figure salary and "additional positive developments."
Whoopee! I've got the job in the bag if I want it!
The private-sector guys said they would be calling Tuesday, also with an offer. The rub - I don't yet have their offer, but the first thing the company pres said in our interview today was that he was a 'left-leaning guy." Shit! The guy's a Dem! He told a story about getting a R mailing about Cheney - "where did they get my name?" Yikes! He might be the guy to work for. (BTW-I made no disclosure about my political affiliation...it could be a set-up). Oh, yeah, also a 6-figure base salary at that place.
I may be in the middle of a bidding war...for me! I can't fucking believe it! Finally, some really great news and an incredible break. Not able to get arrested for 3 years and all of a sudden, ka-BAM! Best of all, my wife - who went through surgery and chemo this year - will be able to quit her job and relax.
Just had to share my good news with my DU buds. I certainly posted enough threads on my job woes in the past. Thanks for being so supportive. I hope I can confirm all this next week. Fingers crossed.
Keep the faith, baby!

I'm sooooo happy for you and your wife! Especially for her, as I had the big "C" years ago, too. I'm glad the pressures off!
You must be very tough to have survived 3.5 yrs without work!!

7. No celebration until the ink is dry on a contract. |

I guess I'm more of a realist than I was a few years ago.

8. Mazel Tov!!! As they say, "When it rains, it pours!" |

How did the subject of the guy's political affiliation come up, by chance? I'm surprised the topic was brought up is all, considering it seems inappropriate at an interview unless it's for a political type job. Great news, though! :toast:

Yes, that kind of stuff isn't appropriate for an interview...which is why I kept mum.
