Poll question: Worst President Final Four Semi-Final #1
Here's the first pairing:

In this corner:

Warren G. Harding, 29th President, 1921-3

- set a standard for Presidential corruption that has scarcely been equaled; both his Attorney General and Secretary of the Interior sent to the slammer
- had numerous mistresses and an illegitimate daughter by one of them
- abysmal Senate voting record prior to assuming the Presidency

And in this corner:

Ronald Reagan, 40th President, 1981-9

- jingoistic cowboy proponent of missile defense system worthy of science fiction
- "Poor? What poor?"
- hogged all the credit for the destruction of the Soviet Union

4. Harding.
In my old History prof's words.. "Dying in office was the best career moves he ever made." Plus all that oil at Teapot Dome would have come in mighty handy once WWII rolled around.

6. Harding was probably one of the last Republican presidents
who had a progressive view in relation to civil rights policy. He wasn't all bad

8. Reagan: "The homeless are that way, I guess you might say, by choice."
This, after eliminating the federal subsidy for state-run mental institutions; and those poor deranged souls had nowhere else to go BUT the streets.

There is an especially hot place in Hell for someone who would and then say something like that.

11. I think Harding was more or less a victim of his bad advisors...
too much loyalty to his old Ohio buddies was his undoing. Thats not to let him off the hook or anything, but Reagan was just pure unadulterated evil. One day the media will stop kissing his dead ass and expose him as the cold heartless lying bastard that he was.
