5. They don't even bother to read your reply. |
|
Just so they get a reply from you is all they care about. But please do not give out any personal info. And use a catcher e-mail account like Yahoo. Have you checked out www.419eater.com? You will get a lot of pointers there.

8. They're not even interested in your personal info |
|
it's of no value to them. What they want is your money. In order to effect the transfer of funds to you, they will just need a small sum in order to bribe certain officials, pay certain taxes, etc. etc. Then once you have paid that, quelle surprise! There will be another obstacle, which requires another small sum of money from you. And so on, and so on.
I have heard that it all ends in a personal meeting where you hand over a final sum of cash so that you can pick up the briefcase full of cash, which turns out to be full of anything but.

11. It actually comes to a personal meeting? |
|
Hell, I thought this guy is just trying to pry my financial information, SS# and that kind of stuff so he can do some E-commerce fraud. He is probably working for some massive scam operation, and he himself wouldn't see much money at all, anyway. There is probably some real prick running in Nigeria an e-mail scam sweatshop or something.

12. No, he doesn't want your bank details or anything like that |
|
the scam is nowhere near that sophisticated. He just wants you to send him money, simple as that. It comes to a personal meeting if you are so gullible as to actually keep giving the scammer money and thus follow the thing through to the finish.

22. You can keep him on the hook for months if you play it right. |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 08:58 AM by RebelOne
Here's a few tips to keep the bait going. These are from 419eater.com.
Once your bait is started just play it by ear. Ask stupid questions, misunderstand anything you possibly can in his emails, ask for him to sign meaningless documents, get him to pose for stupid photos, anything you can think of to keep him busy playing with you instead of scamming someone for real. Be sure to mention fairly early in your emails to him that you're quite filthy stinking rich and would love more money and his deal sounds just great. They love to know they've got a rich greedy mark hooked and will put up with just about anything to get your imaginary money out of you.

13. I'm scamming a guy who emailed me to buy my Miata; he claims to be from |
|
Norway or something. So we've been emailing, and I told him I have an uncle who owns a freighter that will be in port in mid-june and I could have it shopped to Rotterdam for free!
He has a friend who owes him money, so he's going to send me a cashier's check and I'll refund him $3000... so he thinks. I'm going to ask him for money today I think.

You should add your e-mail exchanges to the thread (minus anything sensitive you don't want floating on cyberspace)
I find it amusing that they haven't caught on to the fact that their scam is too well known to work. I really can't imagine it ever working, really, but then again, people have sold Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower and the Brooklyn Bridge before, for large sums of cash and gotten away with it.

15. Oh, yes, the old cashier's check scam. |
|
It's amazing how many people have fallen for that. They send you a check for way over the amount and then ask you to refund the difference and ship the goods right away. After you cash the check, you find out from the bank in a week or so that the check was a fake and you are out thousands of dollars and maybe any merchandise that you sent. There are sellers who fall for that scam every day.

28. That gentleman is Hubert Sumlin |
|
a living legend. He was Howlin' Wolf's guitarist. He is one of the last living bluesmen who grew up in the delta and migrated to Chicago. He has played guitar on most of Howlin Wolf's records, he played lead guitar on the classic Muddy Waters track "I Got My Mojo Workin'" and has shared the stage and studio with everyone from the Rolling Stones to members of Zeppelin to Eric Clapton to the White Stripes.
He deserves as big as a sig pic as I can fit, honestly. He was a genius and one of the most important guitar players in terms of style development that ever recorded at Chess studios.
