Have you ever met a Labrador Retriever you DIDN'T love???
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 10:03 AM by Catch22Dem
Look at my girl? Isn't she a doll? We got her in Japan about 6 years ago. This is Lucy (Lab) with Max (cocker spaniel) Their full names are:

  • Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
  • Maxwell's Silver Hammer

4. We are on our 3rd Lab.
Mingus is our latest Lab. They are so wonderful. Here is Mingus with our Golden, Phoebe, after a swim and one silly Mingus pose the day before the *operation*. :) Our last Lab was a wonderful, sweet female named Tootie. Lucy is adorable, how old is she? Maxwell is pretty cute too.

5. We got her as a puppy when we were stationed in Okinawa
That was 6 years ago, so she'll be 7 on her next b-day. She already has a grey beard. :(

7. She still looks very young
probably because she looks so very happy. Mine always seem to have that grey muzzle pretty early. Ahhh, I just love dogs but Labs are very special.

6. My favorite breeds
Golden and black labs
(Well behaved) dobermans and rottweilers
German shepherds
Australian shepherds
Most small terriers who are full of love and energy
Collies

and not necessarily in that order. I just have fond memories throughout my life of those breeds.

9. Labs have the sweetest temperament
And their "crazy retrieving" cracks me up.

I was once at a lake resort where the owner's lab would approach all the guests to play fetch by throwing a stick into the lake.

One day, he got so into the game that he literally wore himself out. He started to sink from exhaustion about ten feet out. Fortunately, a swimmer noticed him and literally towed him into the shore by pulling on the end of the stick he had firmly gripped between his teeth.

The dog lay on the shore panting desperately for a long time, but then he shook himself off, picked up the stick and was happily running around looking for more playmates.

It's a strange trait to have as an inborn instinct, but it's definitely inborn. My brother's Lab was a small puppy in his home for a only few days when he rolled a ball on the floor and she brought it back to him.

10. Well, since you asked . . .
I love all labs, but I sort of despise the OWNERS of the two labs who were walking their dogs off-leash this past winter. On separate days, a black lab being walked off-leash bounded through our hedge, crashed through the ice in our koi pond and indulged in an icy swim.

It wasn't the dogs' fault, and I want to emphasize that. It was the owners' fault. Oddly enough, I had towel-dried both dogs before the owners even figured out where their dogs had gone. Nice, huh?

12. Nope. Nor a Chocolate Lab.

Although it's wise to first ask the owner about petting a dog, I end up with a hand full of slobber before the question is completed.

Now those Cocker Spaniels are another kettle of fish...

14. Most retrievers are just good natured doggies
My sister has a yellow lab. This was suprising to hear, but when my niece was walking it one day, two other labs pulled away from their owner and attacked my sister's lab.

I am still shocked at that. My niece got all scraped up, and the poor dog needed stitches.

15. What a pretty girl! I love labs!
This is my neighbor's lab, Zoe along with the other neighbor's beagle, Sam and my mix Bella. They're best friends.
