Jan "TBN" Crouch: "No Chemotherapy, No Radiation, just Jesus"
Jan Crouch, wife of Paul Crouch, and co-founders of "Trinity Broadcast Network" and its off-shoot, "The Church Channel."

There is no URL because she just said this live on the air.

Claims that she had colon cancer and it had spread to her liver and she became 100% cured through prayer and herbs with no medical treatment whatsoever.

As a Christian, I really distance myself from this stuff. We're not all crazy, folks.

1. People like that are dangerous
They spout off that kind of BS, and somehow manage to convince otherwise rational thinking people into denying themselves life-saving medical treatment.

any who would believe them on that point is far from "rational thinking" - part of rationality is ignoring that stupid bullshit....

27. How about "otherwise decent" people?
Even if they are gullible and not always rational. I think absolute faith in doctors, hospitals or medical science is not very rational either. They are only human, after all, and humans often do not know what they are doing.

To spout that kind of dishonest drivel to their multitudes they must be corrupt to the bone - just after the faithful's money.

I feel sorry for them until they vote for people like *. Then I have trouble having any sympathy for them. When they lose their jobs they get what they deserved for voting for those puketards.

Not knowing any of these sheeple personally, I still have to wonder in what ways they may be "otherwise decent".

own lies.

What a pack of frauds.

And what a debasement of Christianity.

2. Herbs ARE medicinal treatment
They happen to be medicines that God made, which is one reason to trust them far more than pharmaceuticals, some of which might have the name of none other than Donald Rumsfeld on the patent.

However, that doesn't mean I'm going to take Jan Crouch's word for it. Not until God heals her of purple hair!

5. You're right...herbs ARE medicinal.
Because some herbs lack sufficient documentation and are based on misleading claims, it's easy to overlook that. I wouldn't say that 100% of available herbal treatments are effective, but I'd be a fool to say 100% of them AREN'T.

Every time I get a scratchy throat, I'm off to the health food store for echinacea drops...

... I try hard to remember that Christianity is a little more then Crazy-People's Far-Right Politics.

But as someone who has lost a partner and a parent to cancer and is married to a cancer survivor, I despair daily of this dangerous, unpardonable and supremely unhelpful mumbo-jumbo and the freaks and bigots who peddle it.

You Christians really need to get your house in order, my friend.

Get rid of that lying psychopath FAKE CHRISTIAN giggling murderer POS that is our "President" at the end of his term, and do everything within my power to make sure that Bill Frist...or someone WORSE...doesn't "ascend to the throne."

Seriously, folks...for any of my DU brothers and sisters who are reading this...I am a Christian, and I DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE George W. Bush's "Christianity."

I WILL NOT allow myself to be placed in the same category as this coward, this addict, this Oedipal asshole murderer.

I don't KNOW his "God."

I don't WANT to know his "God."

That's all she wrote.

Working on it. So far, the nuts get all the media attention because its a helluva lot more fun to watch some screwball throw themselves down on the pavement outside a hospice for a braindead woman than it is to show a reasonable, mature discussion among adults.

Someday, the sheeple will see their way of life completly turned around by these psychos and come back to the center of reality.

4. Its sad really.
I know someone who is a fundy Christian, and a friend of hers has colon cancer. She is going through the standard medical treatment of surgery, chemo, and radiation- but the cancer has spread to other organs anyway. My friend thinks she should have stuck to prayer alone or natural healing methods- that maybe God is punishing her friend for a lack of faith. You can't win with this belief system.

that is DISGUSTING. I hope the woman who is ill chucks that other woman right out of her life. NO ONE needs that kind of sick judgment, especially not when they're facing their own mortality.

15. It's _her_ body and every person should have the right to . . .
determine the course of their own health care. I support her right to make her own health care choices without government interference, and I hope (but doubt) that she supports our right to the same, including abortion rights and medicinal marijuana.

17. Of course, but she's dangerous (and probably a liar)
The purpose of her story is not to describe her own personal struggle, but to get more people to turn to her. People shouldn't spend money on chemotherapy; they should send it to Jan Crouch, who'll pray over a pile of letters and checks. One has to wonder whether she ever had cancer in the first place.

It's fine for Jan Crouch to choose whatever medical treatment she wants. However, her motives for preaching the power of prayer is purely financial. It is also very dangerous for people that take her up on it.

20. Leverage.
Sometimes, I think liberals aren't thinking into the future. Instead of slapping Jan Crouch around, we need to be leveraging the fact that she made a legal _choice_ about her medical care, yet the religious right would deny the rest of us to make similar _legal_ choices about our own health care.

I have the same complaint, by the way, about Tom Cruise, who has declared war on psychiatry.

40. Right, but legal doesn't = smart.
Tom Cruise made a perfectly legal comment against psychiatry. It was perfectly legal for him to insult Brooke Shields.

Perhaps Jan Crouch is exercising her right to die. She has every right to refuse treatment.

It is not a long-term strategy to ignore what should be debated. No one will make the leap from legally making their comments and promoting reproductive choice.

Since she has eschewed modern medical treatement - was she even diagnosed by a licensed doctor in the first place? Or did some dingbat, speaking in tongues, hold some snakes over her gut?

And who's gonna question a giant chart?

36. I've heard the same thing and it was from a reliable source
A Republican friend of mine keeps me informed on certain sordid details. Yes - I have Republican friends (media consultants in D.C.), but they're old school, Goldwater types, not the neo con type and they'll talk freely about the gawd freaks.

I actually ran into them in Washington National Airport once, many years ago, and it's what stimulated my "interest" in them. No incident, whatsoever, but, since I'm a detail freak and love to analyze people by silly things like what they have in their shopping baskets, I made excellent use of my Raybans and observed them for as long as they were in view (for almost an hour, actually). The thing that impressed me the most was their entourage, all of whom kept a LOT of space between them and their employers. I was totally fascinated by one very seemingly minor detail: neither of them carried a single thing in their hands. The carried NOTHING. Someone in their entourage had the tickets, Jan's purse (the size of a mid sized car, btw) and all necessary traveling items. These self proclaimed "humble workers for the lawd" didn't carry a single, solitary item. And they were constantly ordering one of their employees over for something. Be it gum, lipstick, take some notes, whatever. Really fascinating. And Jan had her hair checked several times, too; constantly primping and checking her appearance in a mirror, held by some poor girl. Worst of all, they were cold and distant, even to the poor schlubs who were, essentially, running their lives.

It's good to be king.

41. Let us all assume, for a moment, that there is a God.
Now, let's assume that this God gave some people the talent and mental ability to invent medical treatments for cancer, such as chemotherapy. We could assume that it was God's will for such treatments to exist, could we not?

Why then, if we assume both of these things are true, would God not want His children to use those treatments if they are suffering from cancer?
