Bratwurst on the grill, homemade baked beans on the stove...
whole wheat rolls ready to be toasted, and a big watermelon on the counter.

All that's missing is the bottle of beer, and I think I'll go get one now.

How is your Saturday evening so far?

5. I did that a few weeks ago - not one of my favorite jobs, but
I love having the flower garden and the pots of fresh, colorful flowers on the front porch.

2. Chicken and beef souvlaki's been marinading since Wed. night...
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 06:10 PM by giant_robot
...now it's skewered and ready for the grill. Got fresh spring greens, grape tomatoes, seedless cucumber, feta cheese, kalamata olives, pepperocini and greek salad dressing ready and waiting. I already have the cold beer. I just need my girlfriend to call and tell me when she can come over for dinner. Summer grilling rocks! :headbang:

edited to add feta cheese. How in the hell does one cook Greek and forget the feta cheese?

...I posted it in the cooking and baking group. I'll repost here if there's any interest.

21. Here ya go:

Some tips:

1) The recipe calls for lamb, but it works just as well with chicken or beef.

2) Use two bamboo skewers per kabob. That keeps the meat from spinning around on the skewer and makes the kabobs easier to turn so they cook evenly.

3) Don't crowd the meat on the skewer. If it's skewered too tightly it might not cook through.

4) The recipe suggests serving it sandwich-style, but my girlfriend prefers it over salad, which we're doing tonight. I like it both ways.

5) If you choose to serve it sandwich-style, use pocketless pita bread and be sure to warm it either on the grill, in the oven, or in the microwave. It makes the bread more pliable.

6) I used store bought tsatziki from Wegman's mediterranian bar. It's a great shortcut, and I doubt I could make it better anyway.

I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. Enjoy!

11. Looks good! I went to the fruit market today, but
there were no blueberries. I wanted to make another blueberry crisp!

I could make apple crisp, but Mr. LiW wants to take the kids for ice cream after supper.

14. Mr. LiW is my kinda daddy!
how fun for the little ones - it must be nice and warm where you are this evening, here it's a little chilly, hence no grilling tonight.

13. It's very easy, though I don't use a recipe per se.
I start with a bag of Great Northern beans, and I soak them in the "hurry up" way (cover with water in a large pot, bring to a rolling boil, turn off heat, cover, let sit a couple of hours or so).

When they are soaked and rinsed, I put them in a Dutch oven with some ketchup, mustard, chopped bacon, salt, pepper, chopped onion, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, and a little vinegar. I can't tell you the exact amounts - just whatever looks right. I bake them, covered, at 325 or 350 for a few hours, stirring every once in a while and tasting the juice to see if it needs any additions. The last portion of baking I take the cover off.

The beans I'm serving tonight I made two weeks ago for my daughter's graduation party. I froze the leftovers, so I'm heating them on the stove.

20. The brats or the location?
:)

The brats came from a local butcher here.

I could only wish I were personally in Sheboygan.
