What's Your Dream Life
If your fondest fantasy of a dream life could come true with no complications or realities to consider what would it be like.

I'd be living on a cliff top in Maine, preferably in Booth Bay or Bar Harbor in a huge house with lots of rooms. I'd have a library/writing room, media room, arts and crafts room, a laundry/game room, a living room with a huge fireplace, luxury bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room and enough bedrooms so the family and friends that I like could come and stay for a long visit.

There'd be a lighthouse nearby and a huge garden. I'd operate a German Shepard Rescue and I'd also become a romantic mystery writer. I'd also have plenty of grounds people and a housekeeper. I'd also need to make sure that there was someone on staff who knew how to keep a generator operational in case of storms, etc.

And I'd stay home as much as possible and have things delivered.

Hopefully there would also be a six foot two, black haired blue eyed handsome man to share it all with me.

And the President would always be a Democrat.

That's my dream! What's yours?

3. I'll play....
I'd get to have the same family I have now, but we would be living back in Minnesota in a 1960s house, or a 1960s-style house, with four bedrooms and a full finished basement with stone fireplace and a built-in bar (wait...this is sounding similar to the house we sold when we moved here!). My husband would be doing a job he loves, and my children could visit their grandparents every day.

I would do just what I do now - stay home with my children and maybe make some pin money with my scrapbook hobby - but I would also have a regular column in a magazine, a column I would write from home. From time to time my short fiction would be published in magazines like Alfred Hitchcock or Ellery Queen.

We'd have a big back yard with a screened porch and a deck, and lots of room to entertain and for the kids to play.

4. i don't have to worry about money
nobody has to worry about money for that matter. children everywhere are happy and there is peace in the world.

besides that (and more realistically) i would live near the ocean in a sunny location on a white sandy beach in a house my husband built just for us. i would have a sunroom and our bedroom would overlook the water so we could fall asleep to the sound of the surf and wake up to the sea-freshness of the day with sun and breeze flowing through our wispy curtains. we and our children would be honey-tanned and healthy and happy. that thought makes me smile.

5. I would still be married to my husband, but we would live in Paris.
Oh, and I could speak French, that would be really important. Everything else would be pretty much the same.

6. I'd live in a nice old house
Since I don't like to clean, I'd be able to hire someone. I'd have two children, a boy and girl. My husband and children and I would all get along. I'd be a succesful scientist or writer or both. I'd have several close friends who would come to visit us often. I'd be a trustee of my college alma mater. I would have recovered from my health problems too.

7. A rich philanthropist, traveling all over
Meeting people, and throwing money about to people who need it, and to organizations that help people get out of poverty by teaching them.

That would be cool.

I would have many wonderful close family members near me and have that warm, secure feeling I never had in my own childhood which was fraught with tension. I would be able to be a painter or a musician or a writer and every day would have a purpose to get lost in and before I knew it, it would be sunset and I would have a nice bottle of merlot and go out on the hillside and watch it set.

12. Mine:
A nice apartment in Brooklyn with enough room to have a queen sized feather bed. The rooms would be simple; decorated with lots of plants, posters of my favorite music groups (U2, Coldplay, Modest Mouse, Moby), art (oriental art, especially those of cranes).
I would have a Boston Terrier, named Bobo, who would wear a Yankees bandana.
I would be teaching high school biology in the city and making a difference.
Having a wonderful partner who enjoys constant affection.
Enough money for books, coffee, and going to the Yankee games.
That's about it. I like simple things :hi:

13. Having a business of my own,
where I finally reward myself for my years of hard work rather than some company. I live in a large two story house with a large yard with woods all around. The house has a restaurant quality kitchen, a spacious yet intimate living room, a 4-car garage, and all the latest technological marvels. I can run my business from my home office but do travel quite a bit to different places in the US. I share my life with a woman who's the love of my life, the yin to my yang. I lose myself when I look into her eyes. She is herself and nothing more. I am in heaven.

14. It's funny about house size ...
It is good we have a nice-sized house now (2600 sf) because we have two kids. However, after going through their baby/toddler/early childhood years with the accompanying avalanche of STUFF that comes into the house (either invited or uninvited) I sometimes dream of having a small but well-organized house decorated in a warm but zen-like semi-minimalist style which would have a smallish, easy-to-maintain yard ... (this would be the post kids-at-home phase).

Anyway, I really like living in Portland, but I wish I had a lot of money in order to 1)travel and maybe spend part of the year abroad (Italy, France, New Zealand, you name it) and 2)give massive donations to great liberal charities. I might even have a small place in the Berkeley hills for staying part-time when I'm in the Bay Area (my old home). However, then you get into maintenance issues with having a second place, and that blows my zen-like vision!

17. Lving in a world at peace...
where there was no hatred or discrimination and everyone treated each other with respect and dignity. Then I'd be able to spend my days planting flowers and baking cookies and editing porn and spending time with the people I love instead of worrying about the state of the world and screaming into the wind.

23. To be rich and famous, what else?
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 07:19 PM by Placebo
But actually, I'd just be happy being independently wealthy with residences in Paris, London, New York, and Tokyo.

Okay, so I'd be happy with just a home in NYC or Paris.

Okay okay, so I'd be overjoyed with a closet to call my own in either of the two.

But I'd also like a big farm in southern Illinois. And a house on the ocean on Connecticut or Maine.

I don't really know what my dream would be, come to think of it. I have so many.
