No British comedies for me tonight.
Pout.

The local PBS station isn't showing them. What's a late Saturday night without British comedies. Dammit.

I'm going to have to finish watching Annie Hall. I've never seen it and I started watching it last night--my first Woody Allen movie ever. I was surprised at how much I liked it. Laugh out loud moments.

Nothing else on. I thought it was the weirdest movie and I was so surprised that I liked it, but that guy just grew on me. Such a dork!

8. his movie is terrible
it is his show that is what you need to see. He did two seasons on HBO after several years in the UK, where he became so popular he could not fool anyone anymore. Forget that awful film---it is nothing at all like his show. You are talking about his vile "movie" Indahouse, right? blecchh---you have to see Da Ali G Show, the weirdest comedian you will ever meet--he interviews people like Newt Gingrich, Pat Buchanan, Ralph Nader, Andy Rooney and makes the look like total idiots. It is unbelievably funny. And he has another character, Borat, a journalist from Kazakstan who is doing a video tour of America, interviewing people---but he is absolutely sick....he is a riot

trust me----you won't regret it. Funniest show I have ever seen

here is Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) as Borat playing a country western club in Arizona with his song "Throw the Jew Down the Well" (so my country can be free, you must grab him by his horns) Pure comic genius.

31. Have you seen any of his original ones?
Here in Britain, they contain some real gems.

It's one of those concepts which can't quite stretch to a full-length film, but the shorter ones work marvellously.

6. How about a Grateful Dead concert?
It's Pledge Week AGAIN on our local PBS station. From 5 to 8pm tonight they had on the Lawrence Welk Show, followed by two hours of a Grateful Dead concert. I really wonder about the folks who do the programming here. Welk and the Dead? LOL!

7. If that's your first.... you need to do a lot of catching up!
Could recommend a ton -- but in the spirit of how our Current Administration is conducting itself may I recommend The Front

Not so many laugh out loud moments though, if I remember correctly.

The Front - 1976
Genre: Comedy
Run Time: 95 minutes
Film Remarks:

A man with no real political convictions is hired to front a group of blacklisted writers during the McCarthy period of the 1950s. A dark send-up of Hollywood McCarthyism.

most everything he's done. Though, I haven't seen all of his newer stuff.

Sleeper and a Midsummer's Night.... are pretty funny. Bananas, too.

17. Woody Allen is a great storyteller.
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:34 PM by CanuckAmok
You'll love his movies. I'm in the same boat as you are...I never thought I'd like his work, but I do.

Next try "Sleeper", "Manhattan Murder Mystery", "Manhattan", "Deconstructing Harry" (that's my favourite), "Goin' Bananas", and "Mighty Aphrodite".

And if you want to see a great movie, check out "The Front". It's written, not directed, by Allen, and it's not a comedy. It's about the "Hollywood Blacklist", and it's an incredibly moving movie. Zero Mostel will break your heart in it.

on edit: "Zelig"!! How could I forget "Zelig"?! It's great!

28. "The Front" is awesome, and is loosely based on
Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted. He is one of the writers of the movie and yes, Zero Mostel will definitely break your heart in this movie.

Annie Hall is wonderful.

29. Bouncy, I found a dimsum restaurant!!!!!! Big write up in the StarTel
weekender ...funny I should come home and read it right after the conversation we had about dimsum...

Jade is the name of the restaurant and it is on East Arkansas, which is somewhere near the Fiesta Mall, (formerly the Forum 303 mall) where the Dillard's bargain basement used to be.)

The reviewer gave it a good recommendation, too.
