Here's the question that's really on your minds: why do people want cats?
There are hundreds of cat threads here but tonight's the first time I saw threads about children.

1. They're soft and fluffy and purr. And besides that,
they're far superior to humans. :D

only 150 calories a serving!

Cat: the other other white meat.

Cat: it's not just for breakfast anymore!

5. Cuddly and soothing
I miss having cats around! Hubby is allergic so we've had to swear off pets.

6. The soft fur, the smallness, the cuddlieness, the purring
oh yeah definitely the purring,
their independence
the fact you can leave them for the weekend and they will be OK
they get rid of mice and other undesirable critters.
they are so damn funny when they play
they are so elegant when they move
did I mention the purring?
kittens are just too awesomely cute

8. As Opposed to Children? Easy
When a cat 'meows' with ferociousness, we'll never have to interpret that as: "you messed up my LIFE, you bitch!"

10. They're soft and fuzzy
They keep you company, know exactly when you need extra loving after a hard day, are good listeners and they never need to be let out in the middle of the night to do their business!

11. It's my cats' tolerance in letting me stick around that I find touching!
I can't hunt. I'm a failure with cat toys. I can't purr. God knows, I can't even lick my own butt!

15. Oh, man, you just made me snort soy milk. That's a hard to do.
Especially when you're mocking the "why do people want/not want children" threads, where I have really enjoyed myself. Lately. Not so much last week.

22. If that's happening, there could be one of several problems.
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 10:06 AM by iconoclastic cat
I have successfully eliminated that behavior in several cats. To help you, I would first need to know what the cat's behavior is specifically, when this began, and what you've tried already.

18. We've made domestic cats dependent on us to survive, so we owe them.
That, and they're great when the heat goes out in February!

20. You have just given me a better answer!
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 09:55 AM by bertha katzenengel
A better answer to the question I constantly ask myself: why do I feel compelled to save every cat I see? The old answer is rooted deeply in my childhood (no joke).

I like this new answer much better, and it has a ring of truth.

However, I for one never got a cat to drink beer.... ;)

23. Actually I've never owned a dog - I'm a cat person. "Hobbes" is my
current cat - a beautiful hairy Maine Coon who is very smart, sensitive, and responsive. And, unlike dogs, very clean.

I like some dogs, but wouldn't want one in the house. The dogs I can't stand are the hyperactive little bark-bark-bark ones, the ones that always want to hump someone's leg, the big ones that are always running around and jumping up on people or slobbering all over them, and the ones that persist on taking a dump all over your new carpeting or on your favorite sofa.

Golden retrievers and cocker spaniels are my favorite dogs. But I wouldn't own one.

Maine Coon's are my favorite cats. I've owned 7 of them.

25. They are great companions..
They are fun to be around, they DO know when something is going on (which is incredibly scary), kind, inquisitive, someone to cuddle with and listen to their purrs. My cats even talk to me.. especially my sphynx who never shuts up.

My cats also like to eat bugs that come in the house that I am petrified of.

The only "maintenance" cats need are food/water and their cat box changed. Cant get any easier than that!!
