Poll question: What have you done this morning? Did you enjoy it?
My morning was very enjoyable. B-)

I started as usual by posting on DU followed by dead-heading old flower blooms, watering plants, cleaning and refilling birdbaths, hummingbird feeders and squirrel proof bird feeders.

Tell me about your morning.

1. Lots of stuff.
Put up a few insightful DU posts (and some lame ones too), burned about 8 CDs, put away dishes, made breakfast for everyone (homemade pancakes with eggs and sausage :9), and I'm about to read the morning paper.

2. Prayer and meditation
which was very helpful in getting in touch with my inner feelings. I read emails and my message board, where I relived very pleasant memories of making a person I truly admire really happy and helped make plans to make some other people suprised and happy as well.

7. Been up for 15 minutes. So far I have completed my toilette, dressed, fed
outdoor cats, and logged on to see the weather forecast, look at the headlines, and to see what's up on DU. My head is pounding.

Joan, it sounds like you had a lovely morning w/ your ride, then caring for your outdoor idyll. :hi:

I'm sorry your head is pounding  have you been able to do anything for yourself to ease the pain?

I'm very lucky these days. Yesterday when I was visiting one of my favorite plant nurseries I was able to walk through all of the greenhouses for the first time since 2001. The greenhouses are spread on either side down a long dirt service road. It was great when one of the members of the family who owns and works there pulled my little wagon of treasures back up the hill for me.

Just one tomato plant and lots of flowering annuals and perennials ... my mornings are filled with happy chores all summer long B-)

Me, I have a cat perched on the desk at my left hand, rubbing his face on my pinky and purring loudly enough to wake the dead. Life is good indeed.

14. Up for hours
Went out to breakfast, got groceries and bought a cane. The cane is the bad part. It will probably be my lifelong companion along with Arthur Ritis.

It's very warm and humid here. I'm waiting until evening to water the multitude of plants I've put in. I just hung my hummingbird feeder yesterday. I haven't seen any in the area yet, but expect their arrival any time now.

22. my hummingbirds have been back for weeks
I've been feeding the hummers for 9 years at this location so I feel like some of them know me. I sit outside with my golden retriever and watch their antics. Lovely flight patterns when two or three of the hummers are busy defending one of my feeders. I do place them out of a direct line of sight from each of the other nectar feeders to avoid having one bird dominate the entire food supply.

Are your new plants flowers or vegetables?

Great news about the breakfast - bummer about needing a cane. I had bursitis in my hip and walked with the use of a staff instead of a cane a few years back. I make the most of warm weather because when winter returns I'll still have good days and bad days but I made it through last winter without assistance.

Here's wishing you more good days than bad ones:hug:

38. Thank you
I have a small vegetable patch with peas, kohlrabi, onions, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Then I have quite a few flower beds with a mix of bulbs, perennials and annuals; a large arbor that will be covered with an assortment of flowing vines; a pond and a water fountain. There is not much lawn left. Mowing takes half an hour on a good day or three hours on a bad one. I have a lot of dust inside the house because I spend hours in the gardens. Perhaps I can grow things there next. I've enjoyed this thread. Thank you for posting it.

47. Just a hundred gallon
It's a preformed pond from Lowe's. I started out using a little Rubbermaid recycling tub, then decided I needed something bigger. I'm limited on space or the pond would be bigger yet. I have six goldfish and a frog in it. They wintered over in spite of the fact the the pond is only 18 inches deep. My waterlilies have been in about five years. They are very dependable.

I added a little waterfall last year so that I could have a biological filter. I got tired of cleaning the little one that I had on my pump.
The pond really takes care of itself. I throw in some fish food every day in the summer and pull out things that grow too rapidly.

If I could only have one thing in my garden, it would be my pond. Something is always happening in there. The sound of moving water is so relaxing.

Happy gardening, cmd

98. you should be proud of yourself ~ cmd
When I picked out this house it was partially because of the beautiful cement pond (which was still a pool complete with a diving board) then due to changes in our environment - deadly West Nile Virus Misquotes and unhealthy UV rays the pool went unused.

3 years ago when I was no longer able to drain the pumps and close the pool for the winter, I hired someone to help put the outside needs of the property to bed for the season :grr: I hate it when I pay an employee to totally screw things up:nuke: the upper filter housing broke:mad: :wtf:the next spring I decided to turn the pool into a *cement pond* ~ my water lilies are now in their second summer and the pool's walls are still sound ~ yesterday (thanks to your inspiration) I purchased a pool fountain from Lowe's. This week should be tons of fun, I intend to use the old hardwired timer for the pool filter to regulate hours that my new fountain will be aerating the *pond*

112. Lucky you!
You will have to have some fish. I only have room for goldfish, but you should be able to have koi. They are such great pets. They learn to eat out of your hand in a very short time, live for years and don't need walking!

My good news is that I haven't needed that blasted cane for the last two days! I was so depressed the day I bought it, but my spirits have really improved now that I know I'm not going to be totally dependant on that stick of wood.

Take care. Off to do chores. cmd

unloaded my gear from my paddling activity yesterday, Ran a couple of errands, drank some coffee (at a relaxed pace)

all the while savoring the feeling of exhaustion and muscle soreness from my trip yesterday. I got water up my nose, I'm bruised in a couple of spots, I tweaked my shoulder while trying to roll up.

I may not be graceful, but I am solidly constructed--the bruises will heal. :)

However, my roll is pretty bad, rather than using timing and balance to come up (like you should if you want it to work) I instinctively fall back on the male "let-the-biceps-do-the-thinking" and as a consequence my right shoulder takes a beating....(sigh)

when I stayed up until almost morning for no good reason except wide awake and computer told my brain it is time to stay up.

Got out of bed around 10
Drank some coffee
Folded some laundry and got some into dryer
Ate some chicken cause I'm on first part of South Beach
Checked out DU and here I still am

Your deadheading reminds me it is needed and would be a good thing to do for my spirit and future rose blooms.

40. I woke up to the sound of the phone ringing.
It was a woman that taught at my middle school and befriended me - almost 20 years ago. I've recently established contact with her, in order to tell her how much she impacted my life, and helped me through my abusive childhood way back when. She forgot we're in different timezones, and called waking me from a dead sleep. First time we've spoken in at least 1.5 decades. COOL.

After that - almost fell back asleep - made myself get up at 9:30 because if I HAD fallen back asleep I'd sleep until afternoone. Surveyed the coffee situation in the kitchen - not much there to go on, so I threw on my slippers, loaded the dog in the car, and headed down to the espresso stand. Sign on window "back in 5 minutes" - so I turned the car off and waited. Awhile later, the lady came back and made my coffee.

Went to the ex-bf's house - as I haven't spoken to him in MONTHS until recently sending him an email to see if he wants the dog while I'm on vacation. No one was home - left him a note on the door, and came home - where I'm now typing this.

AND - because I'm typing this I just realized I did NOT tip the coffee lady... I feel TERRIBLE - so - back to the car, load up the dog, and head back to the stand so I can give the chick a dollar. That's what I'm doing next. Now.

That's so sweet of you to return to the espresso stand just to tip someone because you forgot, I'm sure that really made her day so much better. Your teacher must have been blown away to hear from you after all these years ~ great story ~ thanks for telling us about it.

best wishes on working out your dog's vacation

The lady was surprised to see me show back up - especially when she found out it was because I'd driven all the way back just to tip her. It would have bothered me forever if I hadn't.

She was more surprised because her "back in 5 minutes" sign should have really said "back in 20" - she'd ordered something to eat from a little restaurant a block away, and her food wasn't ready when she went to pick it up. I waited for between 10 and 15 minutes before she showed up - but I didn't care. Turned the car off, but left the stereo on... just relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. She felt REALLY bad when she came back and saw me waiting - but I was unperturbed. I don't get upset about stuff - and it wasn't like I had to be anywhere. She thought I'd be cranky and mad because I was waiting - and I tried to go out of my way to assure her all was well. She gave me a break on the cost of my coffee for being so nice - and I was so sleepy I drove off without tipping her.

So I REALLY didn't want her to think I didn't tip her because I was secretly pissed off - so when I returned I apologized profusely and told her just that - and she said NO, she was just happy I'd been so nice about the whole thing. She was so relieved about that she didn't care about or expect a tip.

So yeah, I'd say overall I probably did make her day better. It's SO much easier being nice than being an asshole. Many years working customer service, and especially food service have taught me this. ;)

And the dog is squared away - he's going to be staying with my ex BF, his Papa! He'll not miss me even the most littlest of bits. He ADORES his Papa. It's sickening, really. :eyes: :D He's stayed with him before when I've been gone - and he's always just a little bit disappointed I come back I think...lol My ex has an 8 year old son my dog is obsessed with - and at 2, the dog is about the same age as an 8 year old boy - so you can imagine the fun he has running around with a gang of them. They also have a dog my dog grew up with - so he's going to be in spoiled dog HEAVEN. Mom? Who's she? I don't have a mom - I'm with PAPA. :eyes:

edited to add - the teacher! She wasn't MY teacher - she for some reason was drawn to me, one dorky kid in a sea of bodies flooding the hall - she grabbed my arm one day, pulled me close, looked me in my eye and stated she was there for me if I ever wanted to talk. Freaked me right out, and I never in a million years thought I'd talk to her. I didn't trust adults very much, if at all. Something *connected* though - I was very drawn toward her - and talk to her I did. A LOT. I dumped a lot of horrible shit on her. We became very close friends - I even stayed the night at her house once or twice back then. I was 13. At some point she couldn't deal with it anymore - she'd go home each night and talk to her husband about me - and cry. She couldn't sleep, her life was being adversely affected by what *I* was going through. She eventually had to cut me off, for her own sanity. The connection we shared was very deep and special - and it devastated me, even though I truly did understand on some level. It devastated her too - and I'm finding out now how MUCH, and how vividly she remembers me. It's very interesting to get an adult insight into the child "me" - very interesting. She told me this morning that I sound EXACTLY like I did almost 20 years ago. Freaky.

:)

I think that's a cool story. BTW - we are getting together again, after all this time, when I return to MI for vacation in a couple of weeks.

44. Boring, but pleasant
My lazy Sunday mornings are some of my favorite times. I slept until almost 9:00. I bought my Starbuck's non-fat, no-whip mocha which is my Sun. treat, read the paper and watched the talk shows. Like you, I dead-headed my flowers and watered.

(I also cleaned the litter box, but hey no morning can be perfect. ;))

49. Had too much fun last night.
If you know what I mean.

Didn't sleep too well, had to have a garbage can by me just in case. Got to bed around 2 after I did something bad to break the party up. Got up around 7....8....9....and finally 10:30. Decided to drive home. Got home, ate breakfast and then decided to go lay down while watching The Matrix on TNT. Woke up to The Mummy about 57 minutes ago.

Now I want dinner. :D

Oh and yes as I was lying on the floor the fun had ended. It hit quickly, too. One minute I was fighting and the next I was hunched over the toilet feeling like I was going to barf my entire insides! :D

I swore to myself that I'd not drink anymore after last night.

We'll see how long that lasts. I honestly hope it lasts a long time....as I'm not one to drink much.

i didn't feel good this morning, so i decided NOT to go to work! that was a great decision! i puttered around the house, like you did, Joan - gardening, bird stuff, some reading, a little sewing, a little organizing, and some long overdue laundry. i sat in the sun for a while then leisurely washed my car. had a beer, then ate dinner, and i just got out of the shower. i haven't stayed home kid-free and puttered for a REALLY long time! it feels great.

I slept through it. I work alternating shifts, so that really tires me our a lot. I worked over the weekend, and ended up staying up late last night. Have to work tonight again.

So my morning didn't start until 11am. Got up, made a nice cup of tea (tend to only drink coffee now, when Sapph is around. It is such a waste to make a pot just for me. Or when I am at work and get a latte or two) Came online and read Sapphs blog, then read LBN. By that time she came online and I have been talking with her ever since. Now in a very short while I have to jump in the shower and get myself ready for work.

I worked late last night, and then had to be back at work by 10am this morning. Plus, I am still waiting to here if I get to keep my job after the 30th of this month (the company I currently work for, lost the contract for the place they supply workers for. So unless the new company decided to keep all the workers, I will be out of work) so my nights have been pretty restless.

75. Slept, watched people hit with swords, chased coyote, looked for book
Spent last night at a SCA June Faire party, camping out, bed after midnight, letting the teens come in to sleep at their own time (around 2). Woke, watched people stage mock battles and pondered why people find it entertaining to shop for things they don't need and pretend they are fighting each other. (We went for the campfire and camaradarie, I went as chaperone.) Pondered why people dress in this fantasy garb and talk funny, I'm NOT m'lady to anyone but m'husband.

That was my morning.

Came home to squawking chickens all on top of the chickenhouse roof looking in the same direction so let the dog out to chase whatever was out in the meadow grass. Got electric screwdrives, screws and blocks of wood to repair chicken enclosure fence, lured 10 of the 13 three month old chick out of adult chicken house which was furthest from the coyote and from where they had never ventured yet. Bath, looked for title of a book I read as a child. Now to check DU, then off to bed soon after locking chickens in for the night.

Did something great for boss yesterday today new story. She wants data displayed in different format than I had indicated to map people. I totally do not agree with the way she wants it displayed.... will require much more work out of me today to get it over to map people to make yet another map and the map she wants produced really doesn't make sense.

Kind of pissed and haven't been able to get started today because of that. First thing when I came in this morning. I just told her I'd discuss it with her later.

I've got to plant that one lonely tomato plant which I purchased on Saturday thanks to an overnight thread on DU. Yesterday I went looking for organic soil and wound up filling the back of my small Tracker with various other gardening needs and projects. I knew better than to drive my truck on that shopping trip.

111. I'll try that!
Good idea-and no chemicals.
I can't use many chemicals anyway. I'm allergic to simple pest control chemicals-even seven dust. I can't get anywhere near it. So simple is always good for me.

113. the least toxic way is always the best
We do everything that we can in an environmentally safe way.

My Blue & Gold Macaw {the parrot who owns me} is more susceptible to airborne toxins than out other 3 parrots ~ so I'm extremely cautious about everything! sheesh ... talk about making changes for the one you love ~!

115. well... I got up (not all that enjoyable)
and drove into work (again, not a lot of fun)

then I went to the gym and jogged 2 miles and worked out in the weight room (made up for getting out of bed and driving to work)

And now I'm working (well... sort of....)

116. getting up is good
a few years ago the joke around here was ... "well I'm still able to feed and dress myself thank you very much" so all things considered ... is it really that bad? working? jogging? going to the gym?

:hi:
