Btw... You know one way Cleveland is better than Pittsburgh? They don't have to worry about 'winning one for the thumb.'

27. I know what you're saying.
I grew up near Waterloo, Iowa which is a smaller blue-collar town in it's own right with John Deere Tractor Works the employer of choice for years. They actually paid people enough to actually rise out of poverty and help them achieve the American Dream. Come Reaganomics and by god we can't have that at all. The bankers cry that it's just not fair that those blue-collar workers were making as much or more than those who went to college.

30. As a Pittsburgher...
I had always thought that Cleveland was a festering shithole.

But I drove through it back in early May, it isn't exactly a festering shithole, I found it to be rather pretty. But, at the same time, I felt it was laid out poorly. But Pittsburgh isn't exactly easy to navigate either, so take that for what it's worth.

49. yeah
well, actually, they went OVER the shoes, but whatever. They're these rubber things that have little metal nubs for gripping the ice. Plus, we do it before the zamboni does its thing, so the ice is still pretty chopped up. It's still terrifying when you march out in front of a sold out Schott, and you keep imagining falling on your ass...

50. Did I tell you about the skull session I saw once
It was August and it was at least 98 degrees outside and the Buckeyes were playing Texas Tech(2002) and I took my friend to see the skull session in saint Johns arena. I walked in there and I was half drunk and I was hit by a gust of hot air. It had to be 120 degrees inside that damn building and the band was playing in their full dress wool uniforms. That was hard fucking core.

51. that's nothing
the drum line reports at 7 FUCKING AM. The rest of the band reports at 9. They go through a full uniform practice, THEN do skull session, THEN march straight over to the stadium and march ramp (which, while it doesnt LOOK that hard, is the most exhausting thing i've ever done)

skull session started out as a last minute practice before the game, in St. John Arena (the old basketball facility) across the street from the stadium. Now, it's kind of a pep-rally deal, with the band doing the whole show, and about 13,000 people coming just to see them

42. I like it
I was pleasantly surprised the first time I visited...my SO is from the West Side, and he has a great neighborhood. Downtown, though, is so dead. It really feels like a dying city - lots of tall abandoned or crumbling buildings and no one out aftr 5:00. Too bad, really, because it seems like it should have so much more potential, and I really like the slightly gritty, post-industrial-steel-town feel of it.
