Air Conditioning - Who Has It, Who Is Sweating? |
|
Mrs Matcom thought I was CRAZY to turn it on yesterday morning. Little did she know, I had SEEN the weather report and decided on a pre-emptive STRIKE by turning it on early. Been on all day yesterday and all day today.
looks like we will be able to shut it off for most of the rest of the week but we really needed it this weekend!
so, you sitting in comfort or cursing the fires of hell today?

It gets over 75º maybe 7 days out of the year here. Most of us don't waste our buckages on air conditioning.

4. We haven't turned the air on yet. |
|
Last week, we had a string of 80s and a couple 90s, but we held the misery at bay with strategic use of open windows, doors, and fans. It was cool enough overnight that it was comfortable for sleeping, and the mornings were still cool.
I avoid turning on the air conditioner for as long as possible. This is the latest we've been able to go yet since moving here, and it doesn't look like we'll need it all week either (temps in the 70s).

5. Have it, but I avoid it. |

It's loud and annoying and I tend to be a person who's cold easily. It's got to be over 90 before I crank the AC.

A drag during the winter, but as long as I keep the doors closed during the day, it stays cool most of the summer. I have gone two years without turning on the AC.

10. I have two window units that I have to drag out of the basement, |

up to the second floor, and install. By myself. :(
It's not nearly hot enough for that yet, although I think it will be by the end of this week.

Except on the first floor, because my sweet FIL gets cold, so I had to turn the gas logs on for him. I am sweating my butt off in the office and he has the logs on! :wtf:

Out here in Western MA, where it is well over 80 today, I don't bother with AC. Windows open all over the house, lights and unneccessary appliances off, a couple of fans seem to keep it quite comfortable.

I live in Oklahoma. It's muggy as hell, and it's in the 80s. No wind. We were out walking around on the car lots in town today just browsing. I was sweating in places I didn't know had glands. I was so glad to get home! Duckie

Out here where it actually gets COLD, I have begun to chuckle w/ the locals at the behavior of Southern Californians during the rare cold snap back home. Jackets at 65F is strange to me now.

I use the Pacific Ocean as an air conditioner-- it's always on, and I can leave the windows open without feeling guilty! My hottest August days probably won't rise beyond 80 F, if they even get that hot.

24. Seattle: don't have it, don't need it |
|
Most older homes in Seattle don't have a/c, because we don't get all that heat, and in the evening it cools off like crazy.
We welcome the heat so we can thaw out anyway....

34. We are in SoCal, and for many years did not have A/C.... |
|
However, when we built our home 3 years ago, we decided to have it installed centrally. It gets warm upstairs even though the house is extremely well insulated; plus we like it downstairs a little bit since our parlor grand piano needs consistent humidity. Also, the A/C keeps us from hearing our neighbors who can be noisy at times. It also helps keep the house cleaner since the windows are closed. As soon as our evening breeze comes up, we shut it off and let the breezes do the rest of the cooling...Works for us!

It's in the upper 80s and humid, though. My bf is gone for the week or else he'd have it cranked up already.
Very strange, it's June and I haven't had it on at all yet. Pretty unusual for DC.
