What a tormented night... |
|
You ever have one of those "conflicting emotion" nights? That's me tonight. My good friend is going on her first date in a long time, after a bad break-up a few months ago (with another friend whom I no longer talk to anymore due to how he treated her). 85% of me is very happy for her, and wishes her nothing but the best. Her happiness will make me happy. However- 10% of me has worries that if she and this new guy hit it off, I'll be severely pushed to the side when it comes to my friendship with her. And another 5% is having the "I wish it were me going out with her" syndrome.
Go ahead- heap your hugs and/or scorn on me.

More than once, I'm sorry to say. No good advice to offer, and you certainly don't want to try some of the alternatives I've road tested, most of which involved wrecked relationships for someone! Be cool, and be there if she needs a friend later. Otherwise, just be supportive of her choices if you can. Best of luck-- it's that last five percent that gets us in the end....

The friendship is way too valuable to me.

4. I don't think I've ever had a "conflicting emotion" nights...but I hear |
|
what you're saying...And it all makes sense. Friendships always evolve, and if she and this new guy hit it off, then your friendship with her will change. And this can be threatening to you; I hear it in your prose.
I only have one question: WHY IN HELL DIDN'T YOU ASK HER OUT?

You know what is best for you; however, the cliche "nothing ventured, nothing gained" comes to mind. I'm sure you considered that as well...
