I bought the book. It is supposed to be a life change instead of a diet. You alter your eating, exercise and your way of thinking. It can be adjusted to what phase your life is in. It was written by an OB/Gyn and she has our lives broken up into four phases. We are in phase two. You adjust everything to what phase you are in. She says that we are at the prime time to get off of our butts to start altering our lifestyles or else it will be harder w/ the next phase.

it was a big step for me to start with the gym (I give kudos to my bf who had me started). Everytime I go I feel really good afterwards (even with the muscle aches). Next thing for me is changing me eating patterns and what to eat. That is really tough.

I know that they sell it on Amazon. I picked it up at my local bookstore. She wants you to read it all the way through before you start and then keep the book around as a refresher. It's starts w/ the weightloss and then you move into maintenance.

most books are telling you how to lose weight (I make no comments on the effect) but never are able to tell you how to keep it. That is one reason why I stayed away from such books so far.

She said that it is a healthy program and that we have been taught to do things all wrong. It's looks pretty balanced, which is what I tend to look for in a diet. Plus, she doesn't expect you to be on 100%. She has something called a Mini Chill where you can eat a little bit of chocolate or something like that if you really want it.
And she has examples of women who have started this program well into their eighties and are able to keep up. She is encouraging you not to get skinny but to get healthy. She says that she wants to keep going well into her nineties as an active woman and hopes that this helps other to achieve that same goal.

I don't want to get skinny. I am pretty much content with my figure. But I want to stay and eat healthy. That is my main point

but I mostly want to tone up. I really want to get back into shape. And I did get a belly from pregnancy that I never quite got rid of. I would like that gone. Plus, the hips did spread and they need to be trimmed down.
The before and after pics are great. Very toned looking women.
She encourages weight training along w/ aerobics.

Usually I don't get stuck but when something new comes out it seems like I have to absorb it all into my bloodstream before I can put it away and not listen for a long time. I actually analyze it while I am listening to it. Maybe that comes from when I used to play music myself or maybe it is the influence of a friend who is a studio drummer. He does the same thing.

I need to get used to more kilts. I just signed up my daughter for Highland dance lessons. Thought that it would be good for her to learn something about her family (part of my mothers side is Scottish). Besides, I just love kilts!

I've only done very rough & ready ceilidh stuff, full-blown trained folks dancing is most impressive. I seem to remember that Highland is more difficult than Lowland (I once had a flat-mate who was in the R.S.C.D.S.), but I can't remember the details.

Very physically active and very challenging. Her instructor is a former national dancer-she used to place high often. And she still occasionally judges.
She makes the lessons very reasonable in price around here-much cheaper than ballet, tap and jazz. But the costumes are rather expensive-especially if she decides to compete. Then they can reach into the thousands. The good part is that the same costume is used year after year compared to other dance classes where they wanted an average of six to eight new costumes every year. Plus, she mixes in history lessons for the boys and girls to learn w/ the dance lessons.
Should be very challenging for a five year old. They say that performing just one dance is the same cardio equivalent of running almost 2 miles.
