Which Hogwarts House Are You In?
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 07:55 AM by BlueIris
Apologies to all the non-HP fans out there if you find this topic incredibly irritating. I like the HP series, but I'm not a nutter about it, mainly because I have major issues with JK Rowling and her less-than-stellar prose. Please don't flame me about that, okay? I don't hate her writing, but she's not C.S. Lewis or anything, either. Anyway, because of the new book, I have HP-fever again. I thought I would be immune to it, as my ex (the one I hate a lot) introduced me to the books. I was positive my enjoyment of them would die with that relationship, but it has risen again.

One thing I've always found interesting about the phenom surrounding the books is how excited even the most dispassionate, lukewarm HP fan gets when talking about which house at the fictional Hogwarts school he or she would live in. I've never met anyone who hadn't take them time to sit down and develop an opinion on that issue. When I last cared (around the time the fifth book came out), I knew that as a resident of the Potterverse, I would be put in Ravenclaw, basically the house for the intellectual elite of the wizard world. I always imagined that it would be small, cozy and woman-friendly, as well as friendly to all the geeky, nerdy outcasts.. Every online quiz I found several years ago easily placed me there. I find that amusing. The other day, however, I thought about it, and I think that the Hogwarts house for me is now Gryffindor. Yeah, sure, being with the smarties is nice, but what good is being smart if there's no world in which to put that intelligence and individuality to use? As I've posted here before, the last election cycle forced me to reshape my core priorites and values. When I went through a bunch of electronic sorting hats tonight, sure enough, almost all of them told me I should go hang out in Gryffindor (well except for the one that put me in Hufflepuff--so boring!--and that one that said I was best suited for Slytherin...uh-oh). I think this is because, despite my love of my brain, the current desperate circumstances in America are bringing out a protective, ferocious side of me that is most concerned with action, loyalty, and taking care of my friends. Anyway, these are my favorite "sorting hats," if anyone wants to play (and if you're not all laughing at me by now). My apologies if that first URL doesn't load for everyone.

10. There's a really good one I took two year ago that I can't find
online anymore. Sucks. I thought it was the best test. Black background, movable, colored text; very well done and the most accurate "sorting hat" of them all, I thought. It asked a nice mixture of questions about personality and personal philosophy. Grrrr. Frustrating. Anyway, if I find, it, I'll kick it over here.

19. Psst...don't apologize for your likes and dislikes in the lounge. :)
I'm not an HP fan, but I do like LOTR, Star Wars and Star Trek. All of those are dragged through the mud on occasion. Star Wars and especially LOTR and my own personal myths. Parts of them have become metaphors for my own life, problems, failures, triumphs.

I'm sure the same is true for HP fans. Ok, maybe not for the ones who aren't "nutters." :D

Or maybe it isn't. I expected more of those kinds of people, here, though.

Slytherin. I have control issues and I tend to be bossy and opinionated.

Really? That doesn't make much sense to me. Which test did you take?

32. So, SO Ravenclaw
I've taken a bunch of those things over the years, and every single one ever, including the randomly-generated ones, has put me in Ravenclaw. I guess I'm just super-obvious.
