new one on me. I love fish, and grits are just southern polenta, but together they sound nasty.

Best southern soul food I know is fried chicken, turnip greens, fried green tomatoes, butterbeans and cornbread with banana pudding for dessert.

on edit: I've never had chicken and waffles (?), chitterlings or neckbones. I'm more oriented to chicken and dumplings, fried catfish, and smothered pork chops.

16. where are the gumbos?
I'm not African-American but I thought gumbos were certified soul food. I love a good gumbo, I used to love seafood gumbo before I was vegan.

18. Where are the GREENS?
Mustard, turnip, collard, kale.
Radish too and watercress with a bite.
I can eat greens day and night.
A side of cornbread or spoon bread makes it just right.
And don't forget the pot liquor from those greens cooking...dayum that makes my mouth water...
