The lead story on local TV is mercury. In the land and in the water and in fish. Much higher than normal levels. Chemical plant. We've known about this for a while.
It's MER-KEW-RY. NOT mer-curry. 3 different "reporters". <sigh>

3. More people I have heard say mer-kyurr-y |
|
with the middle vowel like "curry" or "fur" but preceded by the consonant "y" sound, unlike your newspeoples pronunciation. I do occasionally hear mer-kew-ry or mer-kyew-ry too.
