work pLace rant/ questions
i've been at this company about 3 years now. it's Located in the back bay of boston. my company owns the 3rd fLoor of the buiLding (each fLoor is its own condo - if that's the proper term... i aLways think of condos as being Living spaces).

the 'president' of the condo association hates us. hates us, hates us, hates us! and has been a totaL, fucking thorn in our sides over the stupidest shit.

he hates us mostLy because we have dirty, unkempt fieLd crews based out of our office (the dirty guys are here at dawn, and sometimes back in the afternoon).

anyhow, for the past 2 years or so, this guy has been making up new ruLes that onLy appLy to us; no one in my company is 'aLLowed' to use the front entrance... no one in my company is 'aLLowed' to use the eLevator... no one in my company is 'aLLowed' to use the Lobby.

for a whiLe, my company's owner (and yes, owner of this fLoor) has been teLLing him to piss off - we pay the same fees they do, and if they don't Like it, they can buy us out at an exorbitant price.

but, every once in a whiLe, the boss caves and just teLLs us aLL we're not aLLowed to use the eLevator, the front entrance, etc... he's sick of deaLing with this shit. so today, we transported 0.25 miLLion doLLars worth of equipment down the stairs (and yeah, at the end of the day, transport up the stairs) so this dick won't compLain again.

so, first of aLL... how can someone be so boLd? compLain, and activeLy seek to have us bought out (or is it evicted? fined? i'm not famiLiar with how condos work) because basicaLLy, we wear jeans and sneakers/boots.

second, this same dick brings his fucking dog to the buiLding every day, regardLess of those of us who are aLLergic (incLuding some of his cLients i gather). i'd Like to rip into the guy now next time i see him with his dog (and he brings it in the Lobby, and on the eLevator) but that might just make things worse.

he aLso has his receptionists waLk his dog for him everyday. that pisses me off too.

12. There's that too...but unfortunately, age doesn't always reflect the level
of sexism... I've found plenty of older men and younger men to be equally backwards in that regard.

5. If I owned a floor of that building, I'd probably hate you guys too.
If you ever have clients or VIPs coming for a visit, the last thing you really want is for them to be brushing up against a dirty, sweaty guy in the elevator. That depends on the type of building you're in too though.

Of course, the asshole probably shouldn't have sold to your business in the first place. So it's his own damn fault.

6. weLL, he doesn't own it
the buiLding is owned by a corp.

this guy just thinks he owns it.

there's actuaLLy worse things in the buiLding than sweaty workers, if that's his concern.

Like a few women who offer companionship. aLthough, they're the cLassy kind (re: $$$$), so maybe not.

or the drug addicts who get treatments at the ground fLoor cLinic.. and then go shoot up outside.

7. It ALL depends on the rules of the common association and what is written
in your lease.

If no issues are referred to in either situation, he has no right to tell you what entrances and common areas you can and can't use.

READ your contracts and if the issues are not addressed then nod, smile, agree and then do what you please whenever he starts whining.

It's REALLY fun to fuck with them with the "gosh, I'm SO cooperative" stance and a HUGE smile, and then do precisely what you want to do.

(But if the rules are expressed in your lease(s) etc, you should abide by them.)

13. wait, he's fine with the drug addicts, but not you guys?
wtf? are the addicts well groomed?
seriously, he's only still after your boss because it's worked in the past. never give quarter.

btw, one building i worked had a dog arrive by dogigie taxi (at 70$ a pop for a short skip in manhattan) every afternoon after his morning was spent in a doggie day care program. we all realized the dog had a more expensive lifestyle than we did. LOL.
and yes, he sent the receptionist down to pick up his pet from the cab. never actually saw him anywhere near his pet. poor little rich canine.

14. don't be too pissed about the dog thing
If my boss had a dog, I would GLADLY walk it for him. (Unless it interfered w/ my work responsibilities.)

15. If you are part of a condo asscoication, he cannot make rules and impose
them on you without a vote by the condo board. Your boss or the owner of your office condo should call a meeting. There has to be a majority vote on any rules that apply to common areas that are out of the ordinary. If there are no rules about sweaty men in elevators in the condo docs, the nosie nellie is SOL.

16. Tell your boss to hire someone with a handicap.
If this dickhead still insists on not using the elevator he's in a world of shit with the feds and the employee could haul his ass into civil court and make a tidy profit.

Also. Are you sure he has the authority to speak for the ownership of the building? Or is he just a real dick and can't help himself?

17. no, he has no authority
he's one of those peopLe who takes his roLe as president of the condo association to an extreme.

the boss is just tired of deaLing with him, and so he occasionaLLy caves and teLLs us to not take the eLevator, and not use the Lobby, etc... i usuaLLy ignore it.

can't use the eLevator? fuck that.
have to use the service entrance? fuck that too.

20. i know, and so does the boss
the owner of my company resides in the western part of our state, so he's rareLy ever here to deaL with this guy (so it's Left to 'the boss')... but one day he came down (Last august i think) to do just that.

i wasn't there, but the meeting went something Like so: "is there anything in the ruLes that say we can't use the elevator? no? ok. wouLd you Like to buy us out then? no? ok."

that was supposedLy the end of that.

i haven't gotten the whoLe story yet on what's up this time, but my hunch is the dirty foot print in the eLevator. since we're the onLy peopLe who couLd possibLy drag dirt in the buiLding, we aLways get a Letter or friendLy gesture from a maintenence person asking/teLLing us not to use the eLevator or the front door - yeah the guy fucking teLLs the janitors to come teLL us. :eyes:
passive aggressive?
