I'll never be your beast of burden.
"Some Girls" was a great album. When the Stones caught that second wind back in '78, it was like life reaffirming itself. My generation was lucky in that respect. We couldn't have the Beatles, but we had the Stones, still vibrant and worthy of the label "The World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band". "Some Girls" was a massive comeback disk. Charlie Watts put on a drumming clinic, the guitars were tight, the lyrics were biting, it was a huge hit even as punk was starting to assert itself culturally and musically.

I'll never be your beast of burden
My back is broad but it's a hurting
All I want is for you to make love to me
I'll never be your beast of burden
I've walked for miles my feet are hurting
All I want is for you to make love to me

Am I hard enough
Am I rough enough
Am I rich enough
I'm not too blind to see

I'll never be your beast of burden
So let's go home and draw the curtains
Music on the radio
Come on baby make sweet love to me

Am I hard enough
Am I rough enough
Am I rich enough
I'm not too blind to see

Oh little sister
Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, girl
You're a pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty girl
Pretty, pretty
Such a pretty, pretty, pretty girl
Come on baby please, please, please

I'll tell ya
You can put me out
On the street
Put me out
With no shoes on my feet
But, put me out, put me out
Put me out of misery

Yeah, all your sickness
I can suck it up
Throw it all at me
I can shrug it off
There's one thing baby
That I don't understand
You keep on telling me
I ain't your kind of man

Ain't I rough enough, ooh baby
Ain't I tough enough
Ain't I rich enough, in love enough
Ooh! Ooh! Please

I'll never be your beast of burden
I'll never be your beast of burden
Never, never, never, never, never, never, never be

I don't need no beast of burden
I need no fussing
I need no nursing
Never, never, never, never, never, never, never be

1. The Stones haven't been the same since Brian Jones died
he added alot of flavor to the tracks. We wouldn't have paint it Black, Mother's Little helper, Heart of Stone, Under My Thumb----heck, most of the best Stones stuff.

2. Tattoo You was great too, they came out back to back.
Hang Fire
Miss You

I think of it as their New York City phase, there is a very Manhattan feel to those two albums, like Lou Reed with musical talent and some more blues and funk.

4. Yeah, that was another classic Stones disk.
And you're spot on about the NYC influences of that era. The Stones were definitely in a New York state of mind in those days. "Emotional Rescue" was the other disk that came out sometime in the same phase. Not as powerful as the other two, but it still had some good hooks.

5. That's One of My Favorite Stones Songs
Right up there with Dead Flower, Sweet Virginia, and Angie.

I agree about Some Girls -- it's very heartening to see a band gain steam again after they had started to decline.

8. Yeah, that and that whipsnap snare that Watt's lays down.
Classy stuff. One of the great albums of the 70's, IMO.

And I don't like 'Beast of Burden all that much.

"Shattered" on the other hand, kicks major ass. :headbang:

9. I love the Stones music, but Mick just creeps me out.
I never understood how anyone found him sexy.
Oh well different stokes I guess.
