Schools are closing early here because of heat... |
|
That will do a whole lot for my kids, since our a/c is broken at home. :-) (The repair people are coming to look at it today, but if the whole unit is bad, we're looking at about a week for a new one to come in. Our house is 35 yrs old, and I have no idea how old the unit is, since we've only lived here 5 years.)
Yes, it is hot outside, but I just don't get it. I don't ever remember leaving school early because it was hot out.
Did your schools ever close because it was hot?

4. Back home we got a couple of days off once during a heat spell because we |
|
didn't have AC (Iowa).
Down here in Yuma, AZ....(where in a month the AVERAGE high will be 106... I think they run things a bit stupid with the school schedule... of COURSE they have AC here, huge refrigeration units actually.... but they start school on August 10, when the average high is like 104 and get out at the end of May.... The average high stays over a hundred until September... They need to start school in September and take less time off for fall, winter and spring breaks (they get a LOT of time off) and get out like in early June when the average high is not up to 100 yet. This would save on electricity methinks.

5. most schools around here are done for the summer. |
|
if the unit is 35 years old yank it out if you have the money. the one i have is 35 years old and is about 40% efficent the new ones are about double that ,so investment now will save alot of money in the future. around here we close the schools sometimes in august because of the heat...
