What is A+ Certification, exactly?
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 04:13 PM by bertha katzenengel
Google ran little more than ads for places to get it.

I just spent an hour w/ the firm's CTO. The purpose of my visit to her corner office with six windows was to discuss recent extreme failures by her help desk people.* But for the last half hour she recruited me. Heavily.

She suggested I get A+ certified. She also suggested Microsoft "mouse" -- ? -- certification.

* Which turned out to be gross overgeneralizations by others.... I hate that. There's nothing wrong w/ the help desk here.

1. PC Hardware Repair and Installation Certification.
It is some pretty expensive training, if you go to a private tech school. See if your local community college offers it.

6. You can study for the test on your own.
You don't have to take a course anywhere. There are plenty of self-help guides and websites out there. You can also buy practice tests and the like to suppliment the guides. Most of the people I know who are certified did so on their own.

Try this website for more information:

2. I'm A+ certified.

It's an exam created by COMPTIA that certifies that you are proficient in some basic help desk technologies, methods, standards and techniques. Check out http://www.comptia.org/certification/a/default.aspx

And for the right price, I'll fix your help desk. ;)

MOUS is a Microsoft Office cert. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/officespecialist/requirements.asp

3. It just shows that you have some basic understanding of PC's.
Like the hardware and operating systems for example. You can get it just about anywhere although if you're happy in your job maybe you don't need to think about it.

7. I'm A+ and a MCSE... Believe me ...
,The A+ is a Cakewalk compared to the MCSE.

Since they Charge up the Ass for each part of the MCSE, I've always wondered if they make it hard to pass (The First Time) just so Microsoft can make more money..
