As a professional white female working in a high minority area, a lot of assumptions are made. But the truth is, I'm much more radical that many of my fellow citizens of color. I think it's shocking to some.

For some reason my boss thought I was a republican who just happen to suppor Kerry/Edwards.. when I finally asked her why she thought I was a republican she simply replied "Isn't everyone down here". . .
I sort of can't blame her for that opinion. . . Mathews County VA is definitely a dominate Republican town.

Huge turnover in the state. Republican incumbents sent home, Democratic candidates elected to mayorial and aldermen positions.
It was a great night for Mississippi Democrats last night. :D
I hung out at the courthouse as results were pouring in. A huge interracial crowd, sharing drinks, cookies, laughs and hugs.
It was a great night for Mississippi last night.

and he beat the 1st). Jackson got ass-kicking Frank Melton who will do a FABULOUS job and maybe start the road to recovery for "Capitol City". Even my home town of Laurel elected its first black mayor.
Yep-life is good for Democrats down here.

After an English Lit class one afternoon, two women came up to me and told me that they were glad that I was becoming a teacher. I was in the middle of thanking them when one of them said, "Just don't teach in Chicago. Those blacks don't want to be educated."
I bit my tongue only because they were in their late 60's, but I did get an emergency call on my cell phone which I absolutely had to take.

My last boss was shocked when we got to talking about non-work stuff one day and he discovered how "hard core liberal" I was.
Others who knew little more about me than the fact that I was in the Air Force are surprised.
Sometimes it's the other way around, people who know me as liberal are surprised to learn I served in the Air Force.

I actually have a much better set of evolving haircuts now, thanks to the Dirty Little Secret Salon, but am rarely pictured suited up. I have been abandoned as a marketing tool, because I don't sell 'em.
On a tangentially tangential note, they have a new system at the Pioneer Courthouse Square Starbucks. They take down your drink name along with "your name," which is just a name that you give them. Today my name was "elbow."
The cashier thought I was making fun of her and sneered.
My precious barrista did not yodel my name for the day.
Nevertheless, my tip was generous, as it always is for anybody who has ever had to slog through the Green Apron Book, of whose pages I've only heard rumors.

I live in Pima County AZ (which is blue BTW), but the town I live in and the one next door where I work is very red and mostly consists of retired folks. Many of whom are Repugs. All I have to do is speak and they know I'm NOT a repug. These people here think that Faux is 'The Word' when it comes to national news.
I was very surprised when I went to see F911 at the local theater and saw how many people were there. It turns out, that many here are independants and often think outside the normal box.

When my now in-laws first saw a pic of me, they told my now-husband I look like a good republican (is there any such thing?)
Mr. kt let them know that I was from a strong Dem family. My maternal grandparents had a bookcase dedicated to the Kennedy's with a framed picture of JFK and RFK.
Nowadays, the peace pin I wear everyday pretty much gives me away! (rethugs hate peace, as we all are quite well aware!)

In his line of work, people just assume he's a Republican, and they start spouting off about Dems in general and, of course, Bill Clinton. My hubby said the other night when he was at a convention dinner, someone started in about Clinton, and hubby just excused himself and left the table. In his personal life, he's quite opinionated, but in his business life, he has to walk carefully so as not to alienate his customers.

so I still haven't really come to many confirmed iron beliefs, I'd rather just observe and read before I make any uneducated decisions on what I actually believe. Which is funny because it seems to confuse a lot of people, some throw me in the conservative category but I really don't fit any qualifications of their beliefs, some throw me in the liberal category which I suppose is more fitting if I must be packaged and labeled.
So far my main conclusion is the world of politics is ridiculously confusing...

I live like a King compared to how I grew up... I mean I have a house thats over 1000 sqft with Air conditioning!
Only one person here knows I'm a democrat because she overheard me pissed about Kerrys loss, she turned out to be a Democrat too. My political affiliation as well as religion are two topics I will not discuss at work, to easy to burn bridges and make enemies.
