They also anticipated a 9/11-style scenario - this colossus will withstand a couple of wimpy 747's, if memory serves me correctly.

that proposed this type of "city" with his "urbmons" (Urban Monads)... circa 1970. I forget the SciFi book.
Anyway, there are just a whole bunch of reasons why we should do this, environment wise. Less energy, more green space, no need for private autos, etc, etc.
