A Democrat who "gets" MST3K...Al Gore, for sure. Dean?
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 10:17 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
Al Gore liked the show and watched with his kids. I would say Al Gore has proved that he has great sense of humor.

Does anyone know Dean's take on the show? I make up that Dean would appreciate the riffs from the robots and Mike/Joel.

And, gwb would be totally confused.

Truly, if you get MST3K, you can envision the "big picture".
And, you have an evolved sense of humor. (excepting Tom Servo's Uranus jokes...but, they were still funny, anyway)

MKJ

MST3K blurb about Gore and others

Q: Are there any other famous MST3K fans?
A: Keith Olbermann (a sportscaster/news commentator who has worked for ESPN, MSNBC, FoxSports and CNN) used to make MST3K references all the time, and once called MST3K "the best show ever to appear on television." Director Steven Spielberg once praised the show in an interview; director Martin Scorsese reportedly sent BBI a complementary note. Vice President Al Gore once noted that he and his daughters watched it together. Rock musicians Neil Young and Dan Fogelberg have both professed their admiration. And several actors who've appeared in movies MST3K riffed have expressed amusement at the show, including Miles O'Keeffe, Beverly Garland and Kim Catrall.]

edited to change thread title. (shamelessly trolling for MST3K fans)

1. How much Keeffe is in this movie anyway?
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 10:17 PM by tridim
Miles O'Keeffe. :D

Great litmus test. What was it Joel said during Turkey Day? "We don't worry if people 'get it'.. The right people 'get it'."

2. Thank you...an MST3K fan is a special person....
and the RIGHT person.

I know I could be parachuted into a group of people that didn't have anything in common but MST3K and I'd relate to each of them instantly.

It was a great show and I'm grateful it lasted as long as it did. MKJ

3. Such a brilliant, original idea for a show
And well-executed. I was really disappointed to learn Mike Nelson is a right-winger. While my fave was Joel, Nelson was always extremely hilarious.

27. He has admitted to them in a few interviews

But he was so good on that show (as was everyone else) that I forgive him.

His politics don't really come into his humor, even now in his subsequent very funny books.

Best. Show. Ever.

Msties, check out June 10th issue of Entertainment Weekly (w/Renee Zellweger & Russell Crowe on cover). Nice article about the making of MANOS, The Hands of Fate and its revival (thanks to Mst3K)!!!!!

14. I forgot my shins!
Just watched Manos again a few days ago. What a collosally bad movie. Much worse than anything Dennis Steckler ever made!

Charred finger!

I think I will become a fertilizer salesman so I can make a movie.

18. Manos...you can actually download Togo's "theme" music
From some website my daughter found a few years ago.

That MST3K episode should be in the Smithsonian! MKJ

9. Manos, the Hands of Fate
probably the best episode ever.

I lived in El Paso for a couple years (courtesy of the US Army). A friend and I, both MST fans, discovered that Manos was actually FILMED in El Paso, and we spent months tracking down locations from the movie. Great fun.

17. THIS Democrat gets MST3K
I used to have "tservomst3k" as an AIM screen name. If I can remember the damned password (it had nothing to do with the show)I'd bring it back.

Are reruns of the show still on cable anywhere? And what DVD's (if any) are available? I'm thinking it might be a licensing nightmare because there's a whole movie involved in each episode.

25. There are very few on DVD
including the theater released one.

But - there is a thriving market for video tapes of old episodes on ebay!

Since he didn't have cable. THAT, of you ask me, is what kept him out of the White House.

Remember the Hercules episode? That was the best one.

The Manos Hands of Fate was probably the most popular one though.

22. My 2 personal favorites: Red Zone Cuba and Pumaman...
Although there was a sixties movie about some guy who wore pants with a white belt who went "undercover" to biker bars to bust them...I saw it once years aga, and have never forgotten it. I just don't remember the name of the movie.
