Priest Convicted of Having Dog Killed
http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/world/wire/sns-ap-priest-dog,0,3109417.story?coll=sns-ap-world-headlines

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- A judge has convicted a priest of having a popular street dog put to death because the animal allegedly disrupted religious services.

In a televised interview Wednesday, the Rev. Carlos Artavia acknowledged having a local veterinarian put the dog, Camila, to death and apologized to those who were offended.

A judge on Tuesday sentenced Artavia to 30 days in jail -- a penalty waived on payment of 1,000 colons (about $2.10). He said Artavia should have established that the dog was ill or a threat.

The dog had been popular in the poor neighborhood and was known for accompanying funeral processions as well as attending Mass.

2. Wow. The Colon is 2.1 cents now?
When I was last there it was about 1.05 cents.

Proof of how much inflation the USA has suffered in 15 years.

3. This reminds me of my 6th grade English teacher
Well, kind of

She was very religious or at least like to brag about being that way. She said she had never missed a Sunday of church services in 30 years. That always stuck with me because 30 years seemed like eternity to me then as a sixth grader, ya know? She talked about religion all the time.

anyway, it was springtime and some birds had made a nest right
outside the classroom window in a rain gutter pipe thing. As the baby birds got older they would chirp wildly every time one of the parents returned from their foraging trips to feed them, as baby birds always do. Well, this (the chirping babies) infuriated this teacher and she tried several things to stop them like closed the windows tighter, stuff like that. I cant remember what all she tried but those baby birds drove her nuts. Eventually she tried to reach the birds nest to move it somewhere else, and she would have to if only she could have reached it. These birds had built their nest far into this drain-pipe thing, to far to reach..so, she had one of the boy students climb up and stuff paper in the pipe opening. In a day or so the baby birds stopped making the noise that bothered her so much. She starved them to death.
