Wingnut I work with just lied to me about being in the Army
So I'm 'puter dood here at work and I'm cleaning spyware and viruses off this guys machine and he's razzing me. I'm the token Liberal here at work (my DemocraticUnderground.com sticker gives me away). And so we're batting the arguments back and forth. Basically he's all for abusing and torturing prisoners. When he called Gitmo a POW camp I pointed out that it is ANYTHING BUT a POW camp. If it were a POW camp the Red Cross would have access and we wouldn't be able to torture people, etc. His reasoning was "they do worse things to their prisoners!"

So it was a lot of "blah blah blah". Just your regular BS. But then he asked me if I had ever been in combat. I rolled my eyes because he knows I was Navy Reserve during Gulf War I. So I said no I hadn't, have you? Knowing full well that about 3 years ago (I've been here 5) he told me that he missed Vietnam because he had a high draft number. I couldn't beleive it when he said, "yes, but I don't like to talk about it." I pressed him a little more, "What branch of the military." "Groundpounders, but I really don't like to talk about it", he says. What really tipped me off that he was lying was that he said to please keep it between just us because he hadn't let anyone else know about it. He told me that he hadn't even put it on his job application. What kind of wingnut doesn't tell EVERYONE about their military service, if the did it?

I knew it was total BS. I'm just wondering if there is any way to check to see if he was in the military. Does anyone know a way that's free to check someone's military record?

2. So you were Navy Reserves, but he didn't volunteer during Vietnam?
I love it when rightwingers excuse themselves from Vietnam because they had a high draft number, but make it sound like they wanted to go. As if they couldn't have walked into any recruiting office in the country and just signed up.

3. I don't know how to check, but
I did hear on the radio (OK, it was "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me) that for every real Navy Seal there are 200 people who falsely claim that they were.

Ty-pi-cal....

14. Like the WTC on 9/11
If everyone who claims they knew someone who died in the WTC on 9/11, there would have been something like 10,000,000 deaths.

OldLeftieLawyer long ago lost faith in the truthfulness of the human animal.......

5. Here's what you do:
Find a real Vietnam veteran, and introduce them. Make sure the veteran is in on the bullshit, and then stand back and watch while he drills the miserable weasel. Don't let him get away with any of it. The vet will love it. (I know a bunch I wish I could send your way.)

Public humiliation, really, is still my fav. Those Pilgrims knew their way around the human psyche, I must say.

6. I hate those imposters!
You hit it right on the head. Get a real vet to engage them in conversation. I've talked to a number of these creeps. They can't get anything right and don't know shit from shinola most of the time.

Expose the SOB then kick his ass.

10. Imposters are biggest peeve for me too

Espicially guys who try to mimic they were in combat, lowest form of scum in my book. Take pleasure myself in calling them out, recently did this one guy in who had himself out to be Rambo and said he was in Air Force Special Ops, what a night that was...course the side effect for me is that I get myself taken back to the places where I don't want to go back to. But if it means showing a jerk wad who claims to know what its like out...then so be it.

7. that's a good idea.
I actually know the perfect person to do it, too. He was a young Captain in 1965. Pulled 3 tours in Vietnam and got 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He'll love to do it. I'm calling him right now and get this worked out.

Was always talking about 'Nam, and shit. I was in the Navy, stateside then, so I couldn't call him a liar, but a friend was in the same area of Vietnam he claimed to be at the same time. I introduced them.

That was a lot of fun to watch in a bar.

if they ever had any problems with the firing pin cleaning button on the M16 - or if Vietnam era - M14

If he says YES OR NO, he's lying - doesn't exist.

I told him that there was no such thing as a "firing pin cleaning button" and that I knew he was lying. I said, "You're lying. I know because there is no such thing as a firing pin cleaning button" and walked away. He was speechless.

What an @$$hole.

It's sad when losers pose as Vets, because the true Vets need lots of support and aren't getting it, while the fake Vets run their mouths and make the true Vets look bad.

35. It's kinda like a horror movie,
and you know there's something bad behind 'the door', but you have to open it anyway. All the skeletons lying around in the room where the door is don't deter you, neither do the stories people tell you, you just gotta know for yourself.

17. All the time I spent in, I never saw a day of combat
But...

Because I served for 21 months at Osan, the VFW gives me credit enough to join them because The Korean war was never formally ended. (They do this for everyone whoever served in Korea, past or present)

There's no way that I'm going claim that I was in the Korean War.

Frankly, I have no sympathy for any fucker that make false claims about their service.

Wow, I've always wanted to join, but never had any combat time. I guess that year in Korea may actually count for some good.

He's embarrassed because he said that he was not under fire so he doesn't see himself as being a VFW.
