Michael Jackson: Does anyone care?
Media brings circus to town, but audience yawns

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- If the Michael Jackson trial had been televised, the public would have gotten more civics and less circus.

Gone would be MSNBC's puppet theater, the E! Entertainment trial re-enactments, the dependence on analysts eager for airtime -- all displaced by a daily dose of the sober machinery of justice.

But would people have watched?

For legal and media experts, it's arguable whether the case's failure to grip the public like other celebrity trials -- or even the Scott Peterson murder case -- would have been changed by courtroom cameras.

In the trial that set the bar for audience fixation, O.J. Simpson's solid, good-guy image was shockingly cast in doubt by murder charges. With Jackson, his odd life has repeatedly been put through the media mill.

2. They are upset that MJ's trial bombed in the ratings?
oh go soak you're stupid head and come back to me later when you've wised up.

Guess you really need a murder for those ratings.

Well there is still the Phil Spector trial to come. They'll jump on that as soon as that opens.

3. I find watching paint dry more interesting than MJ and this case
it is all media hype for ratings and to avoid covering actual news.

4. People just don't trust the media enough to listen to them
We tune in to hear the basic facts of the news of the day, but no one believes CNN is telling the truth. We'd rather go see a good movie with real actors and decent special effects than the namby-pamby photo coverage behind a melodramatic young anchor with CNN's interpretation of sex appeal.

CNN decided long ago to tell us what they want us to hear, rather than telling us what is relevant. Therefore, they aren't relevant, and people don't care what they're saying. It isn't just Michael Jackson, it's everything from the DSM to the Iraq occupation to the latest sports scandal. I mean, when the news begins reporting who won dumb-ass game shows and fake talent (less) shows--something anyone who cares can find out just by watching the damn shows instead of the news--then what use does anyone have for CNN? I learn more from mowing my lawn.

5. Well, This MIGHT be a good sign, That the MSM is finally realizing
that we are not just Mindless Zombies, who will watch what ever crap they put on and tell us we SHOULD be interested in.

Grrrr, Must Eat Brain!

12. Agree with you
maybe if they finally realize no one is watching, they'll stop sensationalizing these things.

It's really between the parties involved and the justice system. No one else needs a ticket.

7. Maybe, just MAYBE...
people in this country are thinking that we might have more important things to worry about than the future of a washed-up psycho who likes to sleep with little kids. Maybe, just MAYBE, we might prefer the media to report on stories that actually have even a TINY BIT of relevance to our own personal lives.

Maybe people are starting to wake up to the diversionary tactics the media have long employed so obviously (and desperately) to protect the chimp. Maybe, just maybe, we are all getting just a bit tired of it.

I know I am. I have been for a while.

13. There's something about murder that makes you want to look,
but there's something about sex crimes against children that makes you want to look away.
