Is there anything worse than Gene Simmons' solo record?
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 01:18 PM by Fenris
The answer, of course, is no

For some reason that defies all logic, flamingyouth has a complete set of KISS solo records. After sampling first Peter Criss', then Gene Simmons', and then Ace Frehley's (I did not listen to Paul Stanley's, as my ears were already gushing blood), I have decided that Gene Simmons' solo album is not only the worst of all the KISS solo records, it is the worst album ever made.

Ever.

And what a cavalcade of 1970s guest stars he had recording with him: Bob Seger, Joe Perry, Helen Reddy*, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Donna Summer, Janis Ian, Rick Neilson, Cher, Michael Des Barres, and, oddly, the Azusa Citrus College Choir.

The horror. The horror.

*I just wanted to make sure you read Helen Reddy's name and did not have an aneurysm

1. you should have listened to Paul's
it's definitely the best of the 4 (which isn't saying much) and not too bad, all things considered

2. It's beyond "funny bad"
It reaches that rare point of badness where you want to rip it off the turntable, smash it over his head, then stab at him madly with the broken shards.

20. Well
I like Daltry. He had some clunkers, but I can't begin to put him in the same class as Gene Simmons.

15. I liked Kiss when I was young
I stopped liking them before these albums came out. I had friends who bought these and I heard some of Gene's. I agree, besides maybe the William Shatner stuff, Gene is down toward the bottom of the tolerable scale.

19. Yes there is
Virtually any Yoko Ono album other than Season of Glass or Lou Reed's little remembered Metal Machine Music. The latter was four sides of screeching amplifier feedback and noise, no vocals, nothing but random electronic howling. Torturous.

A musician friend used to own a record store and I occasionally worked there on Sundays. When I wanted to clear the store at the end of the day, nothing worked better than Yoko's caterwaulings. Nobody lasted more than thirty seconds after I put that on. :P

21. I liked Ace's.
Some of it.

I do believe you're right about Gene's being the worst album in the history of music.

But Ace's was ok.

25. Ace's is the best, IMO
Has a few good tracks on it, I think, and I like early KISS stuff too (hence why I went out and bought those used years and years ago). I'm glad I kept them. They're pretty funny, I have to admit. :D
