I think I love Maisy the mouse!!!
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 05:49 PM by 4_Legs_Good
I'm not a big fan of most kid's TV shows. My 3 year old watches a bunch on certain days on NOGGIN, and while most of them aren't really bad, I'm just not overly impressed by the likes of Bob the Builder, Dora the Explorer, Franklin, or the little Bear thingie, but there's just something about that Maisy that I really love...

The animation is crude, but very smooth, and the sound effects and voiceover are just so pleasant. I don't know what it is actually, but, everytime I think of that show I can't help but smile.

Oh, and the aligator sounds like Homer

Edit: Added "not" where it belonged

1. Maisy isnt bad.. but I CANT STAND
Franklin and Little Bear. I even wrote NOGGIN about how horrible they are. I watched it one time and my 4 yr old fell asleep during Little Bear.

2. Whiny Franklin?
That's what I call him. Franklin and his soulmate whiny Caillou aren't allowed in my house, LOL. My kid is a bit past that though.

Little Bear is the BORINGEST show EVER. I think it was on Nickelodeon before, stinking it up before they decided to pull it in favor of the current Blues Clues/Dora phenomena. Having it show up on Noggin is interesting... kind of like the other stinkers from the ghost of Nickelodeon past that show up on NickToons.

4. Little Bear is every parents 'well behaved DREAM child'
sure, he'll steal cookies every once inawhile, but then his conscious kicks in and tells. Hes ALWAYS doing the good moral things and never once is the bear pissed about something. At least Franklin gets upset once inawhile and doesnt seem zoned out to tune out reality as bad.

Caillou.. oh dear god. If my kids were that big of a pain in the ass I'd never have another child. He'd be one of those kids in school getting teased and called a sissy in kindergarden.

Now Blue is a show I dont mind my kids watching. Dora, but no offense, I'd rather my child learn Russian or Italian or even French. He's already being taught how to speak in Serbian at church so I'm not too concerned about him not learning a 2nd language.

LOL.. I'm commenting on child shows.. I dont even let the kids watch tv all that much and I know about them all :)

6. Curious as to why you don't like Spanish...
I don't actually dislike Dora much, mostly because my wife has convinced him that it really is interactive and because of the Spanish. I don't particularly care for Blues Clues, though the little sounds the dog makes are cute.

Personally anything that teaches my kid any other languages and that there are lots of other things out there I'm happy with.

7. Nothing against it..
Never said I didnt like it, but it seemed that when I was in high school 95% of my graduating class took Spanish. Same with the rest of the school. I was different and took German and my best friend took Japanese (ow that was hard on her!)

I'm the most language/culture/lifestyle tolerant person... If you want to make up your own language so be it.. I'm not judgemental and whatever someone wants to do/say/speak/etc is fine with me. As long as its not harmful to me IMO.

Got a Calvert (homeschooling) packet in the mail and saw they had a Latin course in it. Perked my interest a little.

Did you see those Leapster-like thing that you can buy different cartridges for it in different languages? They even make it for babies!

10. Ahhh,
where I came from it was mostly French, well, the "cool" people took French, which always kinda bugged me.

I love languages too! Just wish I could learn to speak them better. I think learning any language helps with an inner awareness that the world is a big place and not everyone is the same.

More than anything I wish I could learn Latin. Nothing would be cooler than knowing a dead language that only a few people could understand. I always dreamed about my wife and I learning it so we could have private conversations in front of anyone.

Too coo!

12. I know a little Serbian...
not very much tho, but if I say something to my husband in it he knows exactly what I'm saying. I get told by my mom to watch what I'm saying (she understands a little too) since someone around 'might' know what I'm saying.

I thought about getting the Latin book for ME!!! Its a beautiful language!

I tried to teach myself French but couldnt get the pronounciations right. I felt like an idiot trying.

17. The only problem with latin...
is that the vocubulary is stuck in the Middle ages -- or before.

I took it in college and loved it, but if you're looking for a secret code language, it's pretty hard to say, "After dinner, how would like to fix a couple of martinis, grill some tofu dogs, and sit on the sofa with me and catch a movie?" in Latin!

5. I agree with Caillou too
I've only seen a couple of them, but yeah, whiny.

I guess all those shows are just really cheesey. They're trying to give some kinda reasonable moral lessons, but it actually just makes me say "who the hell cares", and they do treat kids like they're pretty stupid.

I guess it still beats a lot of violence.

Anyway, it's not like Maisy is ultra intellectual or anything - I guess it's just cute.

And, while I don't like most of 'em, anything without commercials is better than anything with them!!

8. Can't stand Dora.
One of the stupidest shows I've ever seen.

My kids watch Mr. Rogers after lunch, then two out of Arthur, Maya & Miguel, or Clifford during the suppertime witching hour.

Blue's Clues is OK. I like Little Bear, and so do my kids. It's restful. But I can't stand Dora, or Caillou. And Sesame Street has gone way downhill since the days of Stevie Wonder singing "Superstition" on it.

9. Oh Sesame Street sucks bad now..
How old are your kids? I cant get my 4 yr old to watch Mr. Rogers. I LOVED him when I was a kid. My 2 yr old loves Clifford and has a huge stuffed replica of him.

Now Sponge Bob I let them watch at 8 (right before bed) and they LOVE him. They get up and start dancing around when his song comes on. Not very educational but with the little I let them watch TV during the day I dont see what a 1/2 hr before bed would hurt.

13. I think everyone loves Spongebob. Don't they?
I mean, I know he turns people gay :eyes: LOL, but Spongebob is one of the few shows my kid and I enjoy equally.

14. Anything with serious aggressive commercial tie ins bugs me
That's why I don't like Sponge Bob. Anything that is utterly pervasive in society and shows up on Happy Meals bugs me. I remember when my son was just over 2 and I NEVER EVER EVER mentioned or showed him anything Sponge Bob, then one day we're walking through the state park and someone 1/4 mile away had a Sponge Bob baloon and my son pointed at it, and said "Sponge Bob!!!" I could barely even see it!

gah! Thomas the toy tank thingie.

11. Also, I love Oswald.
Just wanted to say that. Fred Savage as an octopus and Squiggy as a penguin? Heck yeah.

Love that show from top to bottom.

His cousin was played by Lenny. It was bizarre.

In fact, I bought two of her CD's and they are absolutely chaming! There are some fabulous songs on them that don't appear on Noggin.

All from watching her videos. My 3 yr old loves them.

I wish they showed more of her videos on Noggin.
