it's just a T-shirt but a sentimental favorite; I just didn't see it pre-wash. :(

1. Use scissors...
snip around the stained area. Throw away the scrap.

3. cotton?
is it dark from the oil or is it dark grease? you can lighten them up by putting on baby powder and then pretreating it before you wash. might have to do it a few times. it will get a little lighter every time.
but if it's dark grease dry cleaning spot cleaner first. babypowder will lightenen it enough sometimes that it makes it disappear/ be wearable again. for oil on leather shoes, babypowder rocks!

4. I would take it to the dry cleaners,
and throw myself on their mercy...Just did that today, only now I'm getting smarter; I did NOT try to get the spot out myself first. I'll let them do it...I'm always spilling stuff on my shirt when I eat. Crap.

5. get some lard or bacon grease or just WD40 and saturate over night
then make a strong solution of BIZ and soak 24 hours..working tin the solution gently.. if ;you rub a spot hard you will make a worn spot.. them apply a concentrated liquid detergent or dish soap and squeese and work that in .. then wash.. it is like magic

there are some chemical cleaners but..im alergic

i have had some good results with dish machine detergent too.. but iy might effect colors....test first

6. use Shout, but let it soak in for at least a day though.
used to get my veg. oil stains out of my shirts that way back in my pizza delivery days.

7. Try washing it in dish machine soap.
It's formulated to cut grease and protein stains more efficiently than the average laundry soap. When I've worked in professional kitchens it's all I washed my clothes in.

For an extra, heavy duty treatment, many larger supermarkets carry Fels Naptha bar laundry soap. Or you can find it on the internet, I've done so before. Treat the stained area with the Fels Naptha and then wash the shirt in dish machine soap.

10. I've had good luck with citrus-based cleaners...
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 07:29 PM by Jade Fox
I've rescued a lot of second hand cloths in good shape but with grease-
spots. Try one of the citrus-based dishwashing liquids. Also, citrus based
cleaners seem mild, and I've only had fading with one article and it was
red--notorious for fading easily.

Also, keep spotting it every wash. I've found if spots don't go away the
first time, a few trys do the trick.

11. And if none of these work
get a patch and sew it over the stain. It can be a DU shirt, because we care about you and your shirt. :grouphug:
