Haven't had a speeding ticket yet.

And that would be "cops" not "copy"

15. I'm Mostly Good... But Sometimes I Speed 5-10-15 miles Over.
I'm no speed demon... but 55 is just a PAIN, unless I'm pulling the camper... then I'll keep at the posted speed.

8. Its been so long since 55 on the Interstate
That I nearly forgot about it. The highway to my job is posted at 50 and I drive slightly faster than that. The Interstate will be 70, if it isn't yet. Then I will drive about 70. It's doubtful that my old truck will go much faster than that.

9. Hi, arwalden....Well it depends on time of day, any HwyPatrol in sight,
road conditions and so on...But mostly/nearly always, I'd go at least 60. Maybe/probably more, depending on how much of a hurry I'm in and the conditions listed above.

I've had people zip by at probably in excess of 90 when I was doing 70 or 80...I figure, let them go, and let the cops target them...

What about you?

:hi:

13. Depends On Where I Am...
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 08:06 PM by arwalden
On the DC Beltway... I'll go 70. Unless there's a traffic tie-up or unless it's rush hour, it's really insane to go the posted speed limit.

On I-95... I'll go 65. On some segments of I-64, I'll keep it around 60.

16. I thought you were "camping" fool...When the speed limit is 55, I do 71mph
exactly 16 mph over the limit. Thats the standard. Didn't you get your gay guide book?

27. Forgive me, as I'm not on the gay guide book mailing list, but....
...is your 16 mph over the limit based on radar accuracy? Because I thought they had that within 10 mph now?

We don't have any 55 zones on the freeway here anymore, it's 60 from Tumwater to Marysville (basically the Puget Sound area) and 70 outside of that, so usually I'll go 65-70 when traffic permits and not worry about it.

Except traffic doesn't permit that much anymore :(

We have lots of 55 mph zones left down south but everyone pretty much ignores them.

17. depends on the traffic around me
If I'm alone 60-65, on the DC beltway 70-75
Never be the fastest driver in unknown territory. Every ticket I have gotten in the last 5 years was from obeying that rule.

23. I tend to stick to the flow of the majority
not the speeders, but not the ones going less than the limit either.

So, it would be anywhere from 55 to 65 to stay within the safest flow of traffic

24. 55
It's simple.

Zero chance of being pulled over by a cop for speeding. The less interaction with cops, the happier I am. No need to waste time in court paying or contesting it either.

The posted speed limit is the law, not 5 or 10mph above it.

Keeps my insurance down.

And truly, increasing your speed by 5-10 mph doesn't really get you to where you are going that much sooner, especially if commuting locally. 10mph = approximately .167 miles minute. So if you are commuting 10 miles at 55 mph, it will take roughly 11 minutes to get there, versus commuting 10 miles at 65 mph, which would take you roughly 9.5 minutes, while increasing the odds of cop-interaction, an insurance rate increase, and posing a higher safety risk. For 1.5 minutes? Shit, enjoy the tunes in your CD player. Or eat a smaller bowl of oatmeal. :-)

So I ask the speeders out there, what's the fucking hurry?

Unless I'm driving a white van or Bronco on I-10 in Ventura County. Then I slow down so the camera on the helicopter can get good shots as the cops sloooowly follow me.

28. try to do 65 or a few miles less
used to not realize when my speed would slow surpass that...

but now my old car starts shaking at about 67 - keeps reminding me to keep at or just below 65.

31. I keep up with the traffic.
Some law-abiding Obliviotron doing 55 when everyone else is trying to go 75 is just as dangerous if not more so than the speeders.

ever wonder how a rear-end collision happens on the freeway? I just gave you a clue....

i have driven across this country many times, and i haven't seen 55 since i was in pa in, maybe.... 1988. it is 75 here in nm, and going through albuquerque, it only slows down to 60. i think...... anyway, i have not gone 55 in a REALLY long time, whether it is the speed 'limit' or not!
