5. Had a 1972 Dodge Challenger
383 cubic inches of raw power, dual exhaust, overhead cam, etc. etc. Had to check it out. So I waited 'til we were sure there were no cops anywhere around and let 'er rip. Buried the speedometer, which went to 120, so I was doing at least that fast. What a rush. As I look back, however, I feel maybe that was an insane thing to do.

and we wanted to see how fast my Firebird would go. The speedometer maxed at 95, but I had the needle pinned and he clocked me at 117 with the radar gun.

15. I used to play traffic games with a guy at work on the way home.
We lived close to each other and we would always try to out race the other to the MO. state line. (We worked in Kansas) but normally used local roads.

One night I saw he got on the highway and I followed. His speedometer maxed at 85 and I passed him like he was standing still and it was a busy highway. I bet I was over 120.

Never again, That scarred the sh@t outta me.

Suzi.

If you stick within 10 miles of the posted limit on a highway like I do, you'll never have to pay a ticket.

Fast cars can really spin. Did a 1260. Angel on my shoulder, no one was hurt, we didn't hit anything and the car was fine.

The rest of my journey was at a more sedate pace.

Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 10:22 PM by CanuckAmok
at 5:00am on a deserted stretch of highway between Vancouver BC and White Rock BC, in a '97 Jaguar XK8 convert.

It was a little frightening, as it was still dark. I hadn't come close to the top end limiter, but I was chicken.

on edit: I've probably gone margianally faster at Mission Park 1/4 mile strip in a few Mustangs, but it doesn't count when it's only for a couple of seconds.

32. 'Bout 85. It was only a 4-cylinder Cavalier. I was on I94 from Minneapolis
to Moorhead, and I was in a hurry.

My sister threatened to tell my mother I was speeding. (I was 23. I wasn't particularly worried about being tattled on.)

33. over 140mph....more than once......
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 11:11 PM by rppper
when myself and the ex wife were on our honeymoon, her father loaned us his 944s turbo. i opened it up on the highway between flagstaff and pheonix Az.....top indicated sped was 120, but the needle was way past that mark....

i also swapped bikes with a friend a few years back...i had a nice big cb900 custom set up for touring and he needed to carry a girlfriend to some rally in key west...he loaned me his 93' v-max (1200cc V4) for the weekend....told me to have fun with it..i took it up to about 150mph before fear and common sense took hold.....there is no greater rush than triple digits on a bike...none.....

i also owned an 82 honda cbx (1050cc I-6 cyl) prior to the tourer i mentioned....i regularly took it to around 120mph, but the skinny tires and strange weight distribution(handled like a sled) prevented you from going much faster....

36. 125 in a 92' Vette i owned. 160 as a passenger in a Ferrari F348
Driven by Raul Boesel (Indy car, F1 and Prototype racing driver) at Moroso Park, in West Palm Beach at a Ferrari owners club track day. Paid ten bucks (Went to charity) and had Raul drive 3 laps around the road course there. I knew him from when i worked in Indy car racing. Totally cool. 125 in my C-4 on a lonely 2 lane in FL.

And for the hell of saying so, 107 in an 18 wheel tractor trailer. In Nevada, headed East, the last 20 miles till the Utah line on
I 80. I had a stopwatch and did the flying mile in 33 seconds or so....i just remember the 107 average (The stopwatch had a lap-time feature. Program your lap length and it gives you time and MPH) so i must have been doing better than 108 or 9 at the end of the mile. It probably would have gotten to 110 or 112 as i had another 200 RPMs to the rev limiter. 70,000 pounds going that fast is a handful, let me tell you. You get on the brakes and the truck just sort of laughs at you.

And no, i dont drive like that all the time. I am Mr. five-over-the-limit-in-the-right-hand-lane.

Crazy friend of mine gave me a lift to London in his Mazda RX-7 with twin turbos.......

I didn't think it was a very clever thing to do, but the Ferrari driving I did kicked ass.

40. I've pegged the speedometer of every car I've owned.
At least 160. I used to travel regularly (weekly) at 130+ in one of the many sports cars I've owned over the years.

I have a thing for high velocity.
