So I'll answer the question differently.

Love is the state in which another's happiness and well-being become essential to one's own.

29. Love defined.
Eros
The term eros (Greek erasthai) is used to refer to that part of love constituting a passionate, intense desire for something, it is often referred to as a sexual desire, hence the modern notion of 'erotic' (Greek erotikos).

Philia
In contrast to the desiring and passionate yearning of eros, philia entails a fondness and appreciation of the other. For the Greeks, the term philia incorporated not just friendship, but also loyalties to family and polis-one's political community, job, or discipline.

Agape
Agape refers to the paternal love of God for man and for man for God but is extended to include a brotherly love for all humanity.

Clinical? Analytical? You betcha. I explained aspects of what love is. I just can't explain the aspect of why.

35. I should know this.
I played Oliver in a production of "Oliver Twist" and I had to sing that damn song, "Where is Love?" So, If I can find it, I should be able to define it! But, I only know love is my family, pets included!

36. Love is an action verb
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 01:48 AM by AlienGirl
Love is not that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you're with someone. That's a nice feeling, but it isn't what love *is*.

To love someone is to promote their best interests actively, even when doing so causes you pain. For instance, if you love someone, and they won't really be fulfilled unless they move to the other side of the country, alone, and you'll lose the warm-fuzzies you get when you are together, it is loving to help them go and be happy for their happiness.*

Tucker

*thank you, Mom and Dad...

Was spent instead on loving,

Devoid of bullies' shoving.

Ok. It's late.
